I just have to ask, but given your P4 --> (modern) P4/P5 project... could there possibly be a similiar interpretation of this Dino in conjunction with Pininfarina in the future also? (I love this little Dino -- congrats!)
(smacks forehead) WHY didn't I think of that?! I don't know about you, but my S.O. can't be convinced that I ever will grow up (just old). That's certainly an outstanding example, glad it went to you. Really.
Awe Man!!! I just shorted out my key board from drooling on it! When I was a kid I had a book that had a full page picture of that car. For the longest time that is what I pictured when I thought of a Ferrari. I love that car!
Jim Thank God for all of us that you decided to collect the best in kinetic art instead of Faberge Eggs.... As always, you provide tremendous enjoyment to us all with your seemingly unending incredible taste in rare metal & fiberglass (oh, and CF, Ti and whatever other wonderful exotic materials you have splashed around) and I must add that you are one cool mofo to share it all so openly w/us. Thanks!
Funny you should say that, Jim. I saw this on eBay the other day, and thought of you. Looks like it's been re-listed since: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180209950348 These Kyosho 1:64 models are just over 2" long - would make a really neat little key fob, drilled and hung on a chain, eh ? nice indications in this site. where she was stocked before? how it s possible that PF sold is model? i heard that PF get some financial problem, is it thrue? Congrats Jim, she is a must.
Somewhere in the 'Let's see pretty girls with Ferraris' thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34672 .... there is a period magazine photo of a naked girl sat cross-legged in front of the Dino 206 Competizione. Very tasteful, naturally. I'm surprised no-one else has posted it in this thread. Sadly I haven't got time (or inclination) to trawl though all 280+ pages of it.
I should have known you would have 'right-clicked and saved it' (or otherwise scanned it), Francis .... Well done, that man !
Congratulations on a stunning addition to your collection Mr G! Now if only the Schlumpf Museum could be persuaded to disinter some of its treasures for the benefit of all.........
Fantastic car. Still looks very futuristic in its shape today, must have been (and still is) breathtaking back in the day...
Amazing car Jim. The first toy car I ever remember playing with was a matchbox model of this car. I must have been 3 or 4 years old. That left a lasting impression an a little boy and since then this has always been my favourite car. It tops off your collecton perfectly. All you need now is the modulo Congratulations Jim. Didn't Pininfarina say that car is like a woman; when she's old, you are still able to see if she used to be beautiful!
Didn't Ferrari scrap that car, and David Piper can't remember where he got the parts to put it back together...? KIDDING. Just figured we could start another one of those hundred page threads. Seriously, congrats, and thanks for sharing. That thing is pure sex. With the hints, and the fact that you posted a photo of this car with P 4/5 outside Pininfarina in a much earlier thread, I was kind of suspecting this was the bomb you were dropping. Hey....this is a cool idea...? GO JIM GO!
So the secret's out Congratulations! She's in good hands. Best, Peter p.s. no response from PF yet about the Fiat Dino show cars.
When she wasn't at an occasional Auto Show she was resting in their Museum. Pininfarina is fine. Their Special Projects Division is busy and they've entered into a JV to build a new battery powered car with Bollard. These are tough times but the good companies will come through them. They've sold cars from their collection before and simply felt it was time for her to see more of the world. We've discovered many interesting things while giving her a good cleaning. She's built on a 206S race chassis. When Ferrari sent the chassis over to PF to be built up into the 67 Show Car they painted the water and oil bearing chassis tubes red so PF would know not to drill into them. There are many details that we're discovering and documenting. Another is that on her engine block is a 1966 ACO stamp from Le Mans. In 66 three Ferrari Dino's (008/012/014) ran at Le Mans all DNF. This engine must have originally been in one of those cars. The other interesting thing is that while many thought her chassis # was 034 she is stamped 10523 both on her chassis plate and on a plate affixed to the chassis tubes. We're not sure if 034 is/was stamped below that plate. Another interesting thing is that there are two cars with the chassis number 10523; Dino Competizione and: http://www.finecars.cc/en/detail/car/7663/index.html?no_cache=1 I'm off to PBSCW with P 4/5, Lola and MK-IV.
