Long last few months, BUT it is 100% complete... EVERYTHING works on this car and with ONLY 8000 ORGINIAL KMS.....I am not sure, but has to be one of the lowest around. Boy does it just drive great.... I have YET to see a cleaner "S" anywhere, IMO. Upgraded to SV dual sump pump, Fuel return system, added seatbelts, new brakes, rotors, tires, went through the entire thing, JUST perfect now!!
I think that's an awesome car, and certainly much better for someone who wants to drive it, but I'm curious how those modifications will be received by collectors? Wouldn't they rather have the Miura in its original, and unreliable, form?
I agree, collectors are the ones who normally spend that kind of cash on a classic car though. My Gallardo is only three months old and has 2200 miles on it now, it should be worth about $30k when I'm done with it.
Normally you would be correct, however on the Miura a bit different. Since there were some cars that were returned to the factory for the SAME upgrades I have, it has been looked at as a PLUS for these cars. The FUEL return IS VERY VERY important, so as your car does not burn to the ground. The pump, as well...... A LOT of the restored Miuras, (including SV, not all HAD dual sumps) have been upgraded and make them way more reliable car and safer. So in this case I think it only helps. As far as choice, I my self just find the "S" lines all together more the GT concept than the "SV" unit. I liked the "SV" I owned, BUT just found the "S" to be a more true to the first thought concept. The "SV", (dont anyone kill me) reminds me of a 69 Camaro with a souped up engine and oversized rear wheels and tires, IT just does not fit the concept, (IMO). The "S" has the eyelashes, the thinner and more GT body style as well as the better tailights. I just think the "S" is what the car WAS ment to be, the "SV" just so much seems like a "catch Up" car to me, to make the Americans happy in 1972... As far as performance, the "SV" may slightly out corner the "S", but with the right driver I think they are pretty darn close......I can not speak for all of them, but my "S" was faster in tests than the "SV" I sold, for a 1/4 mile and a starting mile run. I think mainly due to its weight and aerodynamics. This is also backed up by the Factorys own figures that the "S" has a slightly higher TOP END straight speed than the "SV". But I dont think anyone would be unhappy with either car, to each his own. For me, the "S" at HALF the "SV" price is way MORE than only HALF the car........Well at least for todays market anyways.
I am sure you are correct in all aspects..... I do not think any of us will ever take one of these fine cars, 400, "S" or "SV" and run it like we just bought it back in the late 60's or early 70's... I think anyone of these cars to have is a pure joy, regardless of a early or late car....I just think I prefer the "S" for me...I am sure some disagree and some agree..... Hell they are ALL Lamborghini's that is the BEST part of it. One thing I did learn a LONG time ago, if you want to make money on an investment...."dont BUY cars" BUY property...... BUT it sure is "fun" playing with them, you never know when that TELEPHONE POLE is going to jump out in front of you and stop your fun, so enjoy it now and worry about it latter.... Just IMO I WANT MY SIGNED BOOK AT THE SHOW THIS YEAR...I know WHERE you live!!
Roy, You have my word: You will get the book signed by me, and there will also be a fancy-schmancy "Publishers Edition" (complete with leather cover and ID plate ) signed by me and someone special from Lamborghini's history. But I want you to keep that car..... Joe
