I really don't spend as much time working on the mondial as I would in the week because of my daytime job which is working in the funeral bussiness. I personally carry out in the region of 460 funerals per year and when you divide that into the number of working days in a year it does'nt leave much time to play with toys. So most of the work is carried out in the evenings and weekends. Hopefully this weekend should see more progress.

I am inspired. Great work. Also shows that these cars can be fixed without just throwing money at them. Thanks.

As a point of clarification. You do body work and repair damaged cars as a hobby, and your wife found this car and just brought it home for you as a toy/project?

I must admit that I have been restoring classic cars as a hobby for the last 35yrs or so and with me being Italian I do have a passion for Italian cars old or new. Most of my restorations have been Italian cars but I have also restored British and American cars. My last Ferrari engined car which took me over 3yrs to restore was a 1967 Fiat Dino Coupe and I kept it for over 13yrs. This particular Mondial was for sale locally and my wife has bought it for my 60th birthday which is next September but she has let me have it this September so that I could make a start on the repair. It will probably take me well into next year to complete but as long that it is completed before September I will be happy.

At the rate you're going, I suspect you'll be done by the end of this year. Great work.

Many thanks for the comments. Not done very much work today, had to go shopping with my wife. To make progress I really need an headlamp pod, if anyone out there knows of one..................

Hi Jurgen, thanks for the info. Even though the actual headlamps on the mondial are same as the 355 and 348 unfortunatley the headlamp pods are different. Not to worry, thanks again.

Just thought this might make you feel lucky that your car has only had a minor knock, here is one I have just bought, bit beyond help I am afraid. Still it will be good for rear end bits. If I come across one hit in the back I will let you know. Keep up the good work.

I think you will need a rather heavy cutting compound to buff that one out...

Hi Mark, yes thank you for that. Many people have said that my mondial was beyond repair but is is supprising what can and can't be repaired. I have some vehicles as badly damaged as that one even though they have been deemed uneconomical for repair actually been repaired.

Bumper now has been sprayed with a primer filler and will next be wet sanded and top coated. Good news, I've located an headlight unit on ebay. It appears that a certain Mercedes truck uses the same headlight unit which is made by Hella for the sum of £75 and is brand new and boxed. Not bad to say that a the same UK Ferrari item is £250 + vat @ 20%.

If you could get the info on which Mercedes truck or the Hella part number this would be great info for the Mondial part thread.

    Thanks
