Hey Nino, The subject of your last post is the perfect example of the difference between "repairing versus replacing". The challenges you accept, of taking the high and extremely hard road to the ultimate completion of a given task, is what sets you apart from so many others. I see the direction of your work as being driven by pure artistry, plain and "not so simple" !! Cheers mate, Hank
It is fun to see a repair come together from the mind of a craftsman. Very enjoyable to see your repairs come together. I am learning from you.
Having done heaps of repairs on my 82 QV it is so good to see and read others doing the same thing. The rewards will pay huge dividends!
Hi everyone, sorry for not posting any pics lately but have been very busy on the funeral side of things and also christmas but ironically over the christmas holidays because here in the UK the weather has been very kind I have managed to sneek in a few hours work. I did receive just before christmas the headlamp housing which I ordered from Ricambi America and that allowed me to continue with the repair because without it I could not get the correct gaps between the bonnet, wing and front upper panel. I can't thank Recambi America enough because the headlamp housing worked out around £230 (around $360) cheaper than buying it here in the UK and that was including delivery charges, brilliant, Thank You Ricambi America. I have taken some pics and will post them later today. Thanks to everyone for still showing an interest in my project.
Hi Jeff, I agree, this is something that I have done all my life and because nowadays it is not my daytime job I enjoy it more now as a hobby. For me entering into the world of Ferrari ownership is the most cost effective way and maintaining the car in the future will be not a problem. Nino
Now that the Christmas holidays are out of the way, work can now be restarted. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
As can be seen in the previous pics the secondhand wing that I fitted had some slight damage to the top edge and a slight crease along the lower edge. For the time being I have undercoated only the repaired area as to protect against rust on the exposed bare metal area. He does work in a bodyshop now ! , just not the sort of one your thinking about lol. Sorry couldn't resist. lol
Hi Neil, yes I understand, in fact I have just got back from doing 2 funerals today and was hoping to continue in the " bodyshop" but unfortunatly it is throwing it down with rain so no bodywork today. lol
If you do paint yourself...you may want to use a washable paint...in case others complain they don't like the way you look?/ haha
Watching your work on this thread is as entertaining as watching Dr. Who. I can't wait for the next episode. Best wishes for continued success on your repair and ownership. welcome to the club. Dave
Today, the last day of the holidays before being back at work tomorrow I was able to remove after trial fitment the upper front panel and undercoat it. This can now be top coated in red and then refitted for good. More progress at last. I only had 2 funerals today to deal with today so I was able to have a few hours of playtime on the Mondial. I managed to undercoat the complete wing which now only requires the top coat to finish it. I am hoping this weekend to take the old damaged wing along to my local motor factors in Bolsover, a company called Autosupplies Ltd. which will match me the correct shade of red to topcoat the wing, bumper and headlamp housing. Basically together with the Ferrari paint code and an original panel they can match paint to suit. They have been quite good in the past and never let me down with a wrong shade of paint. Hopfully if the weather holds out then next week should see some colour on the panels. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Ted, actually 2012 has started very quiet regards funerals, I can remember January 2009 I did 56 funerals in that month. Nino
