Final coats of different undercoat before topcoating. The previous undercoat was an etching one where as this one is more of a primer filler. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The weather today in the UK has been very kind so I took advantage and actually managed to paint the front panel and the wing. I won't be able to check the color match until tomorrow when I remove the paper masking but at first glance it looks quite good. MacGyver: I don't see no ducttape and swiss army nife? Anyway Nino, you're blessed with some nice skills!
Amazing work. Have to ask, does the wife buy you the cars for the driving later on, or is this here evil way of making sure she gets a few good quality weekends in of exclusive use of the DVD player or the internet while you are storming away in the garage?
I think it's a case of if I am in the garage then I am not out drinking with the lads and chasing after other women so she knows where I am. lol
I removed the paper masking off this morning to check on the colour match which thankfully turned out to be ok. I then went off to work and because I had only one funeral today I was soon back to continue with the top coating of the bumper and headlamp pod. Very happy with the results. Now that most of the paintwork for the time being is completed, apart from the bonnet which I am still working on, I am going to leave the paintwork well alone for about a week or two so that it fully hardens off before it can be wet sanded and then polished. Nino, do you use a paint booth for the spray or just do it in your garage, you are not worried about the dust or humidity? But it looks incredible so no complaints from me boss!
No booth I'am afraid, yes there can be a bit of dust floating around and if any does settle on the paintwork it can be wet sanded and polished out, one has to try and choose a nice calm day just like we are having in the UK at the moment.
Back in the day, I used to know a guy who painted small aircraft outside using Nino's technique and it worked fine.
Really coming on now. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Really looking for the bonnett (hood). Can you describe the steps. The last pic was rough just after the welding of the insert sheet metal. Wonderful stuff. Keep it up.
Because the bonnet is going to be the last thing to be repaired I am concentrating on the other bits first. Even though I have made a start on the bonnet I am hoping that one might come along for sale which will save me alot of time and effort in repairing the old one. Anyway a few more pics after todays playtme. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Today I went to a bus breakers which is located 25 miles from my home to see if they had a headlamp unit to fit my Mondial. It turns out that they did have one and I asked how much they wanted for it. The reply was "..........these are very expensive headlamps mate", so I said " how expensive " and the reply was " I want £30 ($46) for it", so I paid the man and went home with a big smile on my face. It is now fitted and all lights apart from the wing indicator are now working. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
