Hi Tony, congratulations, I love 512TRs too

There are some upgrades available, it all depends on how extreme you want to go :)

I went to the ultimate extreme & built a 512TR race car, 2800#, 500hp, bad to the bone :)

1st ask yourself how ofetn you intedn to take your car on the track ?

The 1st mods I would suggest are a nice tubi exhaust so you can hear the beast then get some porterfield brake pads & rotors too if you want so it will stop a lot better, they are also a lot cheaper than Ferrari brake parts

    TONYS512TR,
Welcome to FChat. I'm in the middle of modding my 512 in the same way you plan to mod yours. The best 512TR performance chip that gives the most power is found on www.hs-elektronik.com (30 BHP increase). Best sports exhaust is found on www.stainless-exhaust.com ($1700, 12 BHP increase). This gives a traditional Ferrari sound (full bodied and loud) with none of the Kawasaki motorbike sound most of the other brands produce. Other good sports exhaust brands for the 512TR are FUCHS and Japanese company MS Exhausts all maintain the traditional Ferrari noise. Forget the others unless you want your car to sound like a cross between a motorbike or tractor. Scuderia badges are aftermarket options, look at my car pictured below. Finally don't forget aluminium gear knob and pedals www.hill-engineering.co.uk for the finishing touch.

Wow! starting with a 512TR! Congrats. If you want the fender shields, PaulieB is getting a new batch made and others tell me his are some of the best available (and reasonably priced). Send him a PM if you are interested. Everyone seems to say get the Tubi exhaust, although I have read good reviews of the Stebro as well. Good luck and drive it as often as you can!

The fender shields were not a factory option for this car or AFAIK any car in that era. They became part of the "bling" that owners added to their cars in the late 90s to copy the factory race cars from an earlier era and are now offered as an option. this is in line with the new and post Enzo philosophy of giving the public what it wants (and at a handsome profit) rather than exercising personal judgements which the old man did on everything. Actually there have been quite few threads on this subject and notably the red color which was not offered by Ferrari to the public for many years and reserved only for their factory race cars. So much so that the factory supported but not owned cars competed in the US in many other colors but not red. Once Ferrari got out of sports car racing it became the "in" thing to have one that expressed the heritage and the US is the only place where the majority of the new cars sold are still varieties of Rosso.

I have the same model as your and profess to liking the in-your-face red because I grew up watching the 250 series compete in the race groups above me in my Cooper (yup 997 not even an S until later) but I know its a pretender.

PS - you should post on the older (TR) car section. Most of the lurkers here are the new car boys.

Congrats and enjoy.. No pics.. ? Exhaust upgrade I think is a must.. I have the older Testarossa (1990) and she is night and day with different exhaust. Let her breathe my man and she will give back a glorious experience.

I have had my 512 for four years without issues. When I bought it from Motor Cars International I customed chrome the rims and back engine grill, added the tubi exhaust, removed the cats * pre-cats, opened the exhaust tubes, use Redline's water wetter for better cooling ( 6 pints), runs at 175, much cooler thus better, KN air cleaners, 100+ fuel: these plus the performance chip upgrade make the car very fast. Starter at times gets too hot to start but the Beast is italian! This car is referred to as having the best ass of all Ferrari's while it performs without issues too.

Yeah the black wolf is my navigator with the key to it! It is hung on his collar lot's of luck getting it.
