Car arrived from the UK 2-3 weeks back so I have been evaluating the car and what needs to be done. I have read all the articles on here about the belts and the disastrous consequences so I decided to take the rear cambelt cover off and have a looksee! I have tried on two occasions to physically remove and detach the cambelt cover but the cover does not have enough clearance between the vertical strut and the cambelt pulley? I have moved the cover enough to get a look at the belts and they appear in good if not new condition, soft and pliable,I was told they had been done in the last few months. What puzzles me is that all/most articles on the belts dont mention the difficulty in removal of the cover. Is there something I have missed, is there a tricky 1/2 twist and somersault manouvre required to totally remove the cover from the car or do you just move it as far out of the way as possible to change the belt. Cant wait to check out the front cambelt cover!!! Thanks in advance, Geoff
Yes, the trick is to unbolt the rear engine mounting bolts and jack up the engine to give more wiggle room for the cover to come out, summersaulting along the way, of course.
That is correct! Unless you have a 1974 GT4. My cover comes right on out without moving the motor. Not sure why this is, but it is. JIM
Aha I knew some one at Ferarri invented a more difficult way to do it!!! You mean loosen both left and right mounts at the rear, how about the front? Better buy another jack methinks!I am already using a floor jack at the rear as a safety measure. Geoff
Same here,,,my old car was a 74GT4 and although it was a bit tricky at first,it came out without having to loosen the rear engine mounts,,,,,,,,pulling out the rear header on the other hand requires the engine mounts to be loosen and jacking the rear of the motor up
