458 doesn't have Cam belts , it has chains.
Melvok, My name is Ivin Seabrook. I have not personally seen the car. The dealer said it is in brand new condition. Indeed, I am expecting the car the car to be perfect, excepting some dust. I could fly down to look at it. I have already paid for the car and signed all the papers. Intercity Lines is signed up to ship from Florida to New Jersey, where I live.
More likely the pics are overexposed. In the closeup of the console, the leather looks darker than beige tradizione. It would be pretty silly of the dealer to misread "cuoio" from the sticker.
I was referring to the auxiliary belt (or FEAD belt as some call it) as it should be replaced every two years.
I am flying down Thurs. to look at my car. I told the salesman I want to inspect the car on a lift. I said I would like the old fuel drained and he said it would cost $400 which seems kinda cheesy to me.
I am taking a flashlight and will buy a roll of white paper towels. I am going to wipe the underside of the car with the towels....there should be practically zero brake dust on the wheels, calipers or uprights. The bottom of the chassis and underbody-panels should be brand new, no road grime anywhere. The tire tread should be perfect. The engine should be clean enough to eat from. Same for the seats. That Ferrari leather shows creases very quickly. The only documentation besides the carfax are from Sept-Oct 2017 - tow receipt, 101 point inspection, battery test etc. when the car was being prepared for sale. The dealer said the 1st owner bought the car, had a clear bra installed, trailered it to his house, and left it there until the sale. It is certainly possible that there are owners that uptight. Assuming this to be so, I can see why there is not a lot of documentation. It would be really stupid of anyone to reset the odo to 68. That would leave no room for error - the car has to be perfect, as delivered, except for some dust. 500 miles or 1000 miles or 2000 miles, OK there could be a small amount of brake dust, and the market price would not have been any different anyway. If anyone has any suggestions of what I should look for, I am all ears.
Good choice to do an inspection. I know it sounds lame, but precautions often are! I think even if there's signs of odometer changing, it is 99% a low mileage car, simply since the seat bolsters have no visible wear in the picture. Generally that's a wear area that's impossible to hide, unless the seats are reupholstered (very unlikely). If there was signs of higher wear, I would not run away from this car. I would just renegotiate based on these new discoveries. Best of luck!
I inspected the car yesterday: it is virtually brand new. I brought a stack of paper towels and used only three of them as there is practically no dirt or grime. The underbody, suspension and engine are all showroom clean. The leather has no micro-creases to speak of. The leather is indeed cuoio which has a warm caramel tone that beige lacks. I like it. While the car was on the lift, they disconnected the exhaust valve. Now I just have to wait a week for delivery! My 9 year old son asked if he can get the first ride.....
Ivin I can appreciate your excitement as I too purchased a 015 458 this week with carbon race package. My car is Blanco exterior with red interior ( alcantara/leather,carbon). My car is coming from Houston Ferrari with 3052 miles on the clock. Shipment will be Reliable to Fl.. I have used them multi times in the past. Look forward to seeing your pictures. I will post mine after the car arrives which will be 1-4 weeks. Good luck Haven't been on the site for quite a while so excuse posting mistakes as trying to get used to the new setup. docf
Did you / are you going to check the DOT on the tyres ? (Date of Tyres...4 cyphers, two for production week, two for year) ?
Congrats Ivan! If you're ever over in our area (Philadelphia suburbs) stop on by, would love to see in person! We'll have to hit a cars and coffee in the area. Looking forward to seeing more pictures of her home!
Algar in Philadelphia was nice to forward my car's build sheet. Apparently the Modis system has been updated such that the build sheets are exported in Excel format with descriptions in Italian. Google translator had a hard time with Ferrari Italian: COLLEGATORE POST. IN CARBONIO comes up as “Post Connector in Carbon" which is the carbon rear moulding. BATTITACCO ESTERNO IN CARBONIO comes up as “Carbon external battery" which is the carbon sill kick panel. RIVEST.SOTTOPORTA IN CARBONIO comes up as "Rivested in carbon" which is the carbon rocker panels. And my favorite is: PANCHETTA POSTERIORE IN PELLE comes up as "Leather rear pants" which is the leather rear shelf. Melvok, I was not aware of this code format. Thanks for the tip. Front tires are 4612, rears are 4912, so that would make them very late 2012.
Jesus, that's the best combination!! Red and cuio! And that rear carbon grill and bumper optional is really rare and cool! Congrats!
