Alex, Congratulations very much! Is this the car Andy Cohen was selling? I was looking at it too - somehow he never sent me the records. Glad to see the car worked out wonderfully! Enjoy it in good spirits! --Dan
I see the US cars get a bigger front splitter than Euro...but also that slightly ugly rubber bumper strip. Not that it matters when it's such a horn bit of kit elsewhere!! You can fix your brake squeak very easily, just pull the pads outs and thoroughly de-glaze them with coarse emery paper, and the discs and wash them with brake cleaner. Pit a little anti seize on the caliper/pad contact areas and you're done. The only slightly hard part is getting the wheels on and off....
Many people do not realize the effort and hard work is involved in finding "your F40". There are many factors in "the hunt" for your perfect car. Different people look for different things. To me, the history of the car is very important, who owned it, who drove it, did they actually DRIVE it like it should have been driven, was it serviced by "qualified people". The passion of Ferrari ownership can not be put into simple words. Not many understand this passion that we all here in this forum have for everything Ferrari. To assist everyone here in sharing in the passion POST LOTS OF PICS!!!! Congrats to you on finding your beautiful F40.
Amazing car. Congrats! Definitely stop by Crystal Cove and let us know when you'll be there in the SoCal section. If this is the same Andy Cohen I'm thinking of, he used to own Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories. I used to work there back in the day while I was going to school.
He told me there was a 92, 3500 miles, previous owner installed a radio (??), etc. Glad it's in good hands one way or the other. --Dan
After the long wait and search....getting behind the wheel of your F40 and hearing the turbo's whoooosh away, its got to be satisfying. Better than sex? Oh and congratulations!
Pics below show the radio, so this must be the car. Alex, do you think you will ever bring your new F40 to the valley? F40 is my favorite car!
I have looked at more than 20 F40's over the past few years and this one is by far and away the best of them. It is unmolested and unmodified in any way, except for the addition of a radio, and has never been raced - a huge factor in its overall condition. The tires are date stamped and I'm going to get a "driving set" of wheels and tires and I will keep the originals stored for concourses and shows.
Any chance of seeing it at Crystal Cove one of these days? Id love to get some good pictures of an all stock F40...They are somewhat hard to find now
Great, Id love to meet you one of these days so hopefully Ill see you down there. Look forward to seeing the car as well.
Just out of curiosity, how are you going to keep the tires? How are you going to prevent them from drying and cracking? BTW, congrats on a splendid car, looks brand new!
I've acquired a second set of wheels to use as a driving set, with brand new, stock spec Pirellis. I will keep the original wheels and tires stored in a climate-controlled environment and bring them out for the show events where originality is required.
Here's how I see it. 92's were the last year that F40's were made. Production started in 1987, to mark Ferrari's 40th year of existence. The F40 was, at the time, a state-of-the-art machine utilizing new technologies, especially regarding carbon fiber. Throughout its production run over five years it was continuously modified and improved. By 1992 the car reached the pinnacle of its development and the 92 cars were the best of the F40's (IMHO).
