Well, it's a start. I just moved to my new house in June, and we are slowly working on the Garage Mahal. This is 2 out of the 3 bays, the 3rd bay floor is not done yet, and obviously, there is nothing on the walls yet, soon to be. Hey Andreas, could this picture get in to the calendar? I can get you a high-res one if so...

I just sold my silver Boxster S, which looked nice next to the Ferrari, and just bought a new black 911 convertible with aerokit, and together they look strange. I would compare the body of the 308 to be fit and trim like an Olympic swimmer, while the 911 looks like a beefy wrestler. I think I'll have to put my wife's Lexus 330 in between them to break up the conflict of the two black beasts/beauties.

Also, for those of you wondering what's happening with the FCA DVD for this year, it should be wrapping up this week or next, and I'll post a preview of the very cool intro/menu animation, featuring the Enzo, and will blow away last year's graphics. Anybody have footage from LFSC gathering? That's all I need...

That looks Awesome Sean !! I am jealous !! I plan on breaking ground for my Garage addition in the spring on my house. I have a two car garage and i'm going to extend it back 2- cars deep and rais the ceiling up to 12 ft. Then i will add a lift and make it a 5-car garage, then i will be in heaven !!

What kind of lighting did you use in your garage, it loos nice and bright. I'm figuring either use a bunch of floresent lights or track lighting with Halogen bulbs....

Also, our those tiles on the floor? I have been thinking about epoxy mine and then have my sister (She's an artist) paint a pransing horse on the floor and clear coat over it... I figure over the winter will give me some time to think about what to do. I am currently putting the drawings together for the general conractor and the village...

Thanks for the compliment...the lighting is Photoshop magic, this was taken around 4:30 PM yesterday, with a bit of ambient light from the windows to the right (not seen), and then about 26% brightness increase and some contrast enhancement for good measure. The floor is actually hand taped and hand painted. After the tape was removed, we saw that the paint bled underneath the tape, so the edges of each square had to be touched up by hand (my wife's artistic generosity). What you can't see in the picture is that the cars leave obvious tire marks which make me cringe when seeing it in person, but not visible in the picture. Easily washed (scrubbed) out, but makes me consider how to do the floor in the future. I had it painted as an inexpensive way (so far about $1000 with materials and cheap labor for 2 out of 3 bays - 900 sq. ft. garage) to see if I like the design before I commit to something more permanent, like marble tile or those fancy interlocking racing tiles you can get at the store. The giveaway that it is paint instead of tiles is the fact that you can see the lines seperating the slabs of concrete...

I'm still debating if I want to go 50's style with the whole thing, like a jukebox, bar, traffic light, etc., or just put up some nice pictures and call it done (once the 3rd bay is done). What do you think?

Looks pretty good. As a city boy I turn green of envy over all that space. I could fit two cars in that space!

You might want to have a talk with the Schulz's over their full size Michael Schumacher mural. Would be a perfect fit for that white wall in the background.

Hmm, I had some pictures, etc., in mind for the wall, but are they selling this mural, or it's painted on to their wall? I don't know them... Anyway, yes, several cars could fit in this space, this car is just on an angle for the picture. It's a 3 bay garage (we're seeing 2 in the pic) that could easily fit 4, or something like 6 if parked sideways for semi-permanent storage.

Send a PM to rennmaus. Their mural is Schumi's F1 car in full size. It is painted on canvas actually, so it is removable and since they're leaving the US, they're thinking about selling it.

A 50's theme would be kind of cool, it depends on how much you want to add to it, is your garage heated? As for your tire marks, can you put down a clear coat over the floor to protect that? I guess the only probablem would be it may get slippery when wet??? From the picture that paint job looks great! I though those were those tiles??

What about painting the Ferrari logo on the wall??? Hanging up pictures would be good too, or some neon lights??? I take it you don't need or have a work bench or will do maintance on your car in your garage??? You may want to leave some space for a work bench??

My garage is going to be two car wide by two car deep and i will raise the ceiling to 12 ft. so i can put a car lift in one of the bays, that will make it a 5-car garage!! My dream garage, then i will have to get more toys to fill the open areas.... :)

    Well,personally. I would only do a 50's theme only if I had Old Cars. '57 Chevy,Old Muscle Cars,etc...

With the Ferrari and the Porsche. You can find all sorts of Cool Ferrari and Porsche posters,Flags,(Like the 2 you have) Signs,etc...Maybe put all of the Ferrari memorabilia on one side, with the car...Then,as you said, Your Wife's car in the middle...Then,the Porsche and all of that memorabilia on the other side. Also, some F1 and other Racing posters. (Ever see Mike E's. garage?)

I found 4 different Ferrari Posters.($10.00 Each...suitable for Framing...:) ) A porcelain covered steel Ferrari sign ($20.00). And,some Huge S/F DEcals ($10.00 each) all at the Chevy Vettefest,in the Swap meet area. One guy also had a "Ferrari Service" Plastic sign,(which would be illuminated) for only $175.00 that I'm STILL kicking myself in the ass for not buying....:(

Also,in the Speedgear Catalog, you can find alot of great stuff there, too.

    Just my .02c...:)

What brand of clearcoat should I use? We painted in finishing epoxy, and was told that putting on clearcoat could chemically react and ruin the paint. Anyway, good point on the 50s theme, think I'll avoid it. The garage will be heated. I will try to get that mural, sounds great. I have all the FCA posters from events, my own pictures, another flag, etc. I'm not doing anything with Porsche memorabilia, it's just a daily driver for me, although a fun one, it does not evoke the same admiration from me that the Ferrari gets regarding the styling. I can walk away from the 911 without looking back (even though I just bought it), but always give the 308 a second glance.

Now that I think about it Andreas, yes I do know Gisela. I wasn't thinking. I've PMed her.

Thanks for the tips everybody, I'll keep ya posted as it develops...

Absolutely! And not only Ferrari, but also Porsche related.

Once you get going with Ferrari events, you'll pick up more posters than you'll have walls.

When I went to Goodwood last year with a car buddy of mine, he immediately fell in love with the Goodwood annual event posters depicting race cars of all periods in oil painting style pictures. He just bought the whole series. Framing them cost him an arm and a leg, but they look now terrific in his car themed room.

PS: Maybe going forward we can turn this into a tradition for our calendar: One Garage Mahal shot per calendar. You guys are competitive I see it coming...

Well, good point about the floor paint re-acting to a clear coat, i guess you would have to test it in a corner, or contact the manufacturer to see what they suggest. Here are a couple places i have saved for future reference in garage floor coatings :

Oh, i have to throw this link in there too, this is what everyone should also have in their garage too : http://www.countach.ch/
