I have not had that issue, but I have not backed up like you mention. I don't see why there would a problem as these are regular 7 speed automatics, not F1 transmissions. LOL.

Have not had that problem, but in general, I find the 4matic very good in the snow, but NOT amazing. Has anyone here owned a 4matic that has also owned or had substantial seat time in an Audi or BMW? How do they compare side by side in real world snow conditions?

Wife currently has a 4matic R350 ('07) and my prior two cars were '06 Volvo V70R (Haldex) and '01 Audi S8 (quattro). Of the three the S8 was best in Dry, Volvo I thought best in Snow, with snow tires nothing could stop it. MB is OK and mostly pretty seamless in operation, but just does not seem to have the grip of either of the other two, nor does it seem to transfer power distribution from axle to axle as well as the Audi or Volvo. Never driven a BMW with awd so no comments there.

Curious why this is here? This is a Ferrari site :) Since this thread started, I do like this body style Benz....especially with the AMG motor ;)

Nothing to do with Ferrari's. Most people in this region cannot drive a Ferrari on a daily basis. As such, this is my new car for daily use while F430 is in the garage at home.

I posted it since I was able to get the car built with 4 Matic and the 17 inch sport package which the MB computer rejected but MB agreed to build after some back and forth. So far I'm loving it on these less than perfect roads around here.

Check my profile and you'll see I've had many 4matic cars. They are pretty good in light snow with all season tires. Hills and deep snow not so much with all seasons. Nice in the rain when the Merritt floods. I've had a 330xi and a Cayenne S they were about the same as all use the abs and stability system to brake the slipping wheels. Ok for light duty but not the best for very snowy areas. The Audi system is a real awd system and is very good if not the best. My Aviator had a similar set up and was the best awd car I've driven.

For NYC area any of these cars are fine without snows if equipped with all seasons. My E550 4 Matic had 18 inch amg wheels with all seasons and was not that great on small hills and 3 inches of snow.

The thing I like about current generation 4 Matic is that you don't even feel it on a daily basis.
