I'm more used to participating in the 458 and California boards so am new to this one. I've always loved the Dino but shied away from owning an older car up until now. After reading up as much as I can on the model over the last couple of years I've recently taken the plunge and bought 03342, a 1972 GT. It's been very enjoyable tracking down various parts required for the car and reading through this part of the forum has been a great source of knowledge so a big thank you is in order to all contributors to the board.

The car was originally finished in Bianco Polo Park with black vinyl but repainted to it's current Rosso Corsa in the 80's. I'm getting quite a bit of work done as the car has spent a number of years in a private collection so requires recommissioning. Here are some pic's.

Congratulations isuk. Your Dino looks beautiful, and I am sure you will enjoy it greatly. Wellcome!

Just remove the silly horse off the back and it will be perfect.;)

    Cheers

Thank you Julio and Francis. I forgot to say that all the Ferrari logo's on the car are coming off. The first item I changed was to fit a new steering wheel with the correct Dino horn push. The Cavalino on the front grill has been removed and the one on the rear is coming off when the car goes into the bodyshop next month for some paintwork.

You are a man of culture and taste. Congratulations. I wish many more would follow your example, and quit defacing one of the best and most beautiful cars ever made: The Dino.

    Cheers,

Congratulations on your purchase! Love those RHD cars!
Just a quick comment, it is my understanding that UK Dinos supplied by Maranello Concessionaires came with the Ferrari script on the boot lid (trunk)and the Cavallino on the front grill.
If that is indeed the case, then does keeping it original, as it applies to UK cars, mean keeping those items on the car?

I hadn't heard about any UK specific badging but I will ask a man who will know for sure.

that was an extra option and quite often the case, so possible, should be listed on the original invoice to the first owner.

That is certainly true of some UK Dinos. I don't know if it is the case with this one or not. Tony Willis may be able to confirm.

    What steering wheel was mounted?

308GTB wheels are getting hard to find........(solid spokes, no holes)

Congrats that appears a very nice example!!!

It was UK dealer option, not a factory item.

The car came with a well worn Momo prototipo which had been added at some point in it's life. Superformance sell the 308 wheel type you mention though http://www.superformance.co.uk/a-308/accessories.htm

    Jonathan,

I've emailed Tony to ask if he knows if my car came with the badging or not. As it's had a colour change though I'm not too concerned to return it to absolutely original spec so may well opt to leave the Ferrari badging off even if it was originally supplied with it. I know the headlight covers were added in the 90's and intend to have those taken off as I personally prefer the car without them.

    Good looking car.

All I can add is that the number plate (if original) was issued in Bournemouth/Poole on the South Coast of the UK.

The counties changed in this area of the UK in the 70s or 80s. It was Hampshire and Dorset but they redrew the boundaries. Bournemouth was in Hampshire (Hants, as it was known) and Poole was in Dorset. However, my old Mum who is sitting next to me tonight (on a visit to Qatar) says that now Bournemouth is in Dorset. The two places used to be about 5 miles apart but are now virtually all one place. I was born just outside of Poole in a town called Broadstone, by the way.

The car was first registered with the number VYN 55K which is a London plate. It had various cherished plates at various points and ended up with the current plate after a cherished number transfer.

Major congrats. You got the more desirable coupe IMO. It is just more beautiful in coupe form. That is the reason I got a coupe Daytona when a convertible was just a bit more. Geesh.

Not meaning to hijack. That form is to die for.

    I just gotta do it.

I think simple pleasures can be great pleasures. Thin tires are fun tires.

When I had a '73 RS, I had thoughts of getting a Dino and a 240Z to live the Road and Track test experience I read about as a boy.

I would really like to wish you this...

Enjoy the open roads !!! :)

Iain, Lovely car, Cheers! Are the seats original? I am curious, as the missing triangular pieces in the transition from vertical to horizontal.
Please tell me, as Luppi says they came like that. ?????

    Alberto,
I was under the impression that vinyl seat covers were made using one piece side panels. The leather seat covers had side panels made with three pieces, the middle one of them roughly triangular in shape.
    Best,

Quite right. You should have the car as you prefer it. I don't support the view that history should stop at the day it left the factory or the supplying dealer.

I've checked the original sales invoice and the car didn't have the Ferrari badging option so they will be coming off.

I agree Jonathan. I want to keep the car faithful to the period but it won't be exactly as it left the factory due to the colour change it had. In light of this I'm changing the interior carpets as they have seen better days and replacing them with set of lovely deep red ones I bought from Eurospares which compliment the Rosso exterior. The vinyl interior is likely to be staying but the dash is looking tired so will be retrimed in the correct mousehair. The door sill vinyl kickstrips have slight tears and these will retrimmed in the correct original zebu'nera vinyl.

Stunning car, and as a 308 GT4 owner I am very envious of you owning quite possibly the most beautifully styled post war car made.

As someone who as a boy raced home from school to watch The Persuaders a red Dino is a dream machine.

My own preference is that the headlamp covers make the car even more beautiful (whatever the originality issues).
