Hi All, Here's another new 355 owner joining the fray. I took delivery 10 days ago, but had to leave the next morning. Only the last couple of days could I fully go through the car. It is just what I wanted, I've liked 355's since they came out. It is as fantastic as I expected.

This is the Black Horse Motors GTS that has already been discussed here before. Pricey? Maybe, but it absolutely lives up to being as advertised. I looked for eight months off and on, and finally found the exact specifications I wanted in the exact condition I wanted it to be in. A 96 with 9800 miles, nearly perfect exterior, nearly perfect interior, major service done just last month, stickys all fixed correctly, even the rear window piece, virtually stock and original, I don't think the tool kit has ever even been opened before. It virtually shows as new. After letting my detail guy (oh, that's me) go through it with a fine tooth comb for two days, I can find very little that needs serious attention. It's just little things you would expect in an 18 year old car. All things I can do.

I'm attaching 10 photos because I like looking at them, and 9 just wouldn't do. nothing you haven't seen before, but a 355 is all new to me and I think it's going to be great. I know, I know, I should have scratched out ONLY on that parking sign years ago. Even though the original carpet is excellent, I added the fresh new floormats, and the fire extinguisher. I know it's controversial, but I'll probably put on the U.K. shields when they arrive.

The good news is what it cost, or might be worth to others, now becomes irrelevant for the next 5 to 10 years. You only find out what your particular car is worth when you sell it. I was actually underwater on the purchase price of my Dino for 20 years, and ....... well, I think we all know how that turned out. So, I leave forecasting future prices to those that have a better crystal ball than mine.

In the mean time, looking forward to maximum enjoyment and sharing technical data and experiences here with you all. -------------- excited new owner in DFW, ---- J.R.

Great looking car J.R. and welcome to the club! We can all relate to the Christmas-morning-like feeling of getting our first Ferrari. I've had mine for over two years and still get a thrill from seeing her in my garage every day.

    Cheers, Henry

OK, so I looked up the thread from 2010, including the BMW part reference. Has everyone done this? Was there a recall? How often to they fail? It's a job I can do, but do I really need to? ------------------------- Thanks, J.R.

IIRC the old-style tank's large 4" flimsy plastic cap becomes loose or the threads on the tank deform/fail somehow... maybe it's all the heat in the 355's engine bay. The PS fluid can then spill out of the tank onto the belts and other stuff causing problems. Mine was updated 3-4 years ago after the cap on the old tank was just barely holding on and leaking. Not sure if there was an official FNA recall, but probably not I would guess. The only official recall that comes to mind is the fuel-block recall, and I've been reading the 355 section for 9 years now.

If you're handy, Roadracer's PS tank cross reference/install thread is really cool.

If it's working now it's not something you have to do immediately and with your ultra low mileage it will probably be fine for years especially if you don't hammer on the car all the time...

However it might be the kind of thing you buy the parts for so you have them ready if other work needs to be done in that area anyway or if your old tank/cap suddenly starts spewing fluid all over then you're all ready to rock and roll. There's nothing more frustrating than waiting around for your car to work because of a stupid simple yet hard to find part, as I'm sure you know.

FYI, to my knowledge, there is no recall for the power steering reservoir, if there was, you could have a dealer do it free of charge.

Badabing! - After looking at some old fire extinguisher threads, I went with simple but effective. 1" wide adjustable stretch loops with quick release clips that were left laying around from an old aviation kneeboard. A 4" strip of fuzzy side only velcro on the tank to prevent it from rattling (pic1). I don't think it's really in the way of the passenger at all (pic2) and easily within reach for me. Of course the whole thing can be removed in 30 seconds and put in the trunk and the car remains stock.

The mats came from European Floor Mats in L.A. Expensive compared to mats-are-us, yes, but there aren't many choices these days in custom embroidering for color and style. Anyway, I find I only buy them once and I'm good for the next 10 years or more.
I went all out and put in the trunk mat too (pic 3)

Remember when Lloyds would custom make anything you wanted? Now it's only plain vanilla. ------------- Best of luck, J.R.
