This is next on my list, I am absolutely serious about getting one of these and prepping for vintage racing with HSR and SVRA...

Click on the model range button and look for it....

A Lightweight Low Drag E-Type Jag coupe. This has to be one of the best looking cars of all time, plus with over 370hp and under 2100lb it has to be pretty dang quick!

I believe less than a dozen were even produced. Originals have to be north of a half million. Don't know if the do replicas. Nice choice if you have the $

Jaguar itself never built a "low drag", there were two such cars built back in the day for private race teams, one that did have some factory support. These two cars are very well known and worth HUGE money. 7 figures easy.

But... they are in fact E-Type rebodies.

Today, several companies build "low drag" bodies. Some use a steel substructure with alloy outer panels, others build a completely alloy chassis. Lynx, in the link I provided, builds and sells a complete turn key street car. About 2250lb and 340hp. They are street legal, title for what they actually are... an E-Type Jag. They use a donor car for all the mechanical bits, your car will have that ID though in fact not that much is used.

I will probably purchase a complete, full alloy chassis along with a package of the best trick bits (custom Lucas mechanical fuel injection.... wide angle cylinder head... correct seats and guages, Hewland gearbox, trick brakes and suspension bits...) and then build the car up myself. Though many of these cars (such as the Lynx) car are in fact built for street use, mine will be pure racecar.

Terry, a buddy of mine brought a D-Type replica about a year ago in Monterrey. If you like, I'll check and see if he wants to sell.

I see that the question was asked but not answered. Can you give us a rough idea of what one of the Lynx Lightweights will cost when all is said and done?

I second that question Wayne - those look pretty nice - and something I was not aware of - and now I am really curious about what they might run price wise. So I can give my wife one more reason we need to build a add-on 6 car garage... ughhh.

I am with you. I have always loved the look of the D-Type. Some day I too would like one of these.

The Lynx "Low-Drag" Lightweight E-Type, fully loaded and turn key runs $225K.

This is fuel injected, slide throttle, dry sump good for about 350hp. The car weighs 2300lb. It can come with A/C if you wish. It has an upgraded 5sp trans.

The Lynx has modern brakes, upgraded suspension and a fully trimmed interior. But do not expect modern car comfort. This will be fairly loud inside, a bit confined and VERY fast.

0-60 is about 4.5sec. Top speed 160+ depending on what gearing you want. Handling and braking are in line with top modern production sportscars.

Still..... not exactly what I want. I emailed back and forth with the Lynx guys, they will only sell a turn key car to their specs. Their cars are built as street cars. I want a race car. Lynx is also VERY expensive!

There are several other companies that build accurate reproduction bodies. RS Panels is one. Classic Jaguar Racing is another. The CJR low drag E chassis is built from 100% alloy to exact factory original specs, except it is stiffer in key areas reducing torsional flex. The Lynx uses a steel center section, the CJR full alloy car is lighter and stiffer.

CJR will sell a complete chassis, with tons of the small bits you need (trim stuff, seats, exhaust, wheels...) for about $85K. I figure a 375hp or so vintage race ready engine may run $35K. A donor car.... and all the other trick bits.... build it myself.... I figure its a $150K car by the time it hits the track. Still a good bit cheaper than Lynx and I will have a car that should be competitive with HSR group 5.

Still a couple of years off...
