i currently have a steel daytona and a 2-tone daytona and no AP.... i am considering between a gold daytona and a AP of similar price for my next watch ... the good thing about AP is i can wear it on casual days but i can't do that for the gold daytona as it's too flashy... on the other hand, the material and the low profile look of the AP does not make it look so expensive if u know what i mean... so i am struggling..

i afraid when i buy the gold daytona, i ll feel bored soon coz it will be the 3rd daytona and i can only wear it on very special occasion.. if i buy the AP... afraid i ll get bored with it style quickly..

    anyone got any suggestion?

Buy the AP used, enjoy it, when you get bored, sell it and move on to something else.

Quality and Retail/Market Value are three different things.

Quality of Finish, Movement, Lower Production Numbers and Kudos from watch collectors then it is the AP. However if you buy it new, prepare to loose money on it.

Rolex is well finished but not to the same level as AP. Instant Mass Street Appeal, everyone knows what it is and fairly common if you move in monied circles. I had a Gold Vintage Rolex 1680 Submariner with a black nipple dial and to be honest I couldnt wear the watch much, it was just too flashy and attracted too much of the wrong kind of attention. You will also loose money on the Rolex as well if you buy it new but less than the AP.

Haggle and Negotiate Hard if you insist on buying them new. I prefer buying them used, that way I wear them, enjoy them and move on without taking a hit.

Measuring and evaluating the finish is subjective but you get the understanding of that from the way the case/movement is finished, the amount of work and processes that goes into it. The AP has by far the better finishing. The current Royal Oak Offshore's bezel is a scratch magnet. check out the new APs they launched at the SIHH this year, the carbon and ceramet solutions limit the scratches problem.

I wouldn't recommend keeping watches for more than a year. Rotating them is the key. Newer and better watches come along, new concepts, designs and trends so why keep a watch forever and limit your enjoyment?

PS: I get bored quickly too
