This was my first time going to a motorsports event with the intention of shooting the whole race. Armed with my 20D and 70-200 2.8, I knew I needed more firepower so I rented a 500 f4. Man, am I glad I did. It really set these pitcures up out of the snapshot realm, being able to see things that most people woulnd't be able to capture. The 20D worked well, though the AF was slow at time keeping up with close panning and at one point the AF just died on me. It did start up after a quick battery reset. I had more fun photographing this event than shooting any of FSU's athletics, including football. I mixed my two largest passions, photography and racing, and it was fantastic.

I will be putting up shots in three parts, as I process them. First is the garage series. If you haven't been to an ALMS race, the paddock access is fantastic. everything is open for you to see, ask questions, etc. Plus you get to go on the starting grid an hour before the race and see the cars up close and personal. So without further delay, here are the shots from the garage.

The originals are much larger, but this is the size I use for sharing on the web. Keeps down theft as well as bandwidth!
