I may have found the one, but I need some comments on this car: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=007&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBI%3AIT&viewitem=&item=170076187236&rd=1&rd=1 item# 170076187236 Specifcally, 1. What is a fair price for an 84 euro spec 308? 2. Did they goof something when installing the tubi exhaust? The back doesn't look normal to me. 3. Anybody know a good mechanic for a PPI in Georgetown SC? 4. Can you put 328 rims on these 308s? I love those rims. 5. Any general comments would help. Thanks. Bullfighter - I know you'll have comments soon, so thanks in advance! Reid
Standard Euro rear valence...... No other comment except the "I'm selling this for a reluctant friend" and all that pegs the BigTex bu11sheeit meter about halfway across the dial! LOL!
Pre Purchase Inspection by a knowledgable Ferrari technician, uninvolved financially in the deal......a third set of eyes......
I'm not an expert on 308's but I did notice a couple of things.. The mileage is NOT in kilometers, it is in miles. So beware; if we can't even figure out something as simple as that then perhaps we also forgot to describe the rod thats hanging out the side of the block. There are a few other guys here who will be able to pick this one apart for you.
Pre Purchase Inspection. Probably $300-800 and well worth it. I recommend that you also put a link in the South Carolina forum and see if anyone recognizes. There was a similar car in Virginia I was interested in that I had planned to fly to ( from Texas) and inspect. On a fellow F-Chatters recommendation, I placed a link in the Virginia portion of F Chat and had many responses regarding that this car had been totaled and had many problems , even though it looked great on the net. At the very least it saved me fuel costs and time .
Man, it always kills me how excited I get about a car and then how quickly that excitement gets dismantled here. Thanks for the posts so far. Fire away...
I think that car was listed on ebay several months ago with the exact vehicle description and didn't sell due to a high reserve. The car should also have 16 inch wheels standard with the euro deep front spoiler and not the metric wheels. I agree with Big Tex all the way!
I'm here...for ALL of you! *group hug* I'm just weary of the eBay ads.........I've studied the overall market too long I suppose to listen to another one citing "The exciting cutting edge design that was the excitement of the 1975 Brussels Autorama"......LOL! I'd have to shoot that sum***** to shut him up, if he was standing on my porch talking that trash...... And most of you know I'm normally a friendly, sharing, kind of guy!
Hey, Brian V! You been watching your neighbor in the Palm Beach Supercars thread down in Miami??? Brian is NOT a corporate FNA lawyer, but he DOES drive his old car! LOL!
So, within one hour I am completely convinced this car is a POS or at a minimum not worth pursuing. I guess it is time to stop drooling over pics in eBay and hire a pro to find me a car. Thanks again. Reid
Careful though....front spoiler was an option either way....deep here or shallow over there, respectively.. And metric wheels show up in strange places, as well, for a few years running.
Have you joined FCA? The newsletter is one of my favorite reads.....all model ranges listed, by people who care.....
Like Bubba says, "selling for a friend" is always slightly suspicious. My obvs in no particular order- bumpers and VIN -its def a euro looks like either 390 or 14" wheels. 390s are a PITA! VERY limited tire choices. interior looks really nice for some reason a mile speedo, I still have the km in mine what are the two hoses on the throttle body next to the plenum? Seems a decent price for the car, a few pooh-pooh PPIs, but you're taking a big chance going into it blind if you don't get one.
You know eBay is not inherently bad, but it's kind of like shopping the day after Christmas...maybe a good deal, maybe not, but for SURE someone's gonna step on your foot or elbow you in the eye..... Why fight it out on the streets, if you can cruise into a quiet neighborhood and talk over a negotiated deal?
nope. I have 390s on mine and it was bought new in Italy and I bought it from the original owner who made zero changes to the car.
Hey guys I know this car, www.308qvregister.com anyway, It has 16 inch wheels I am not sure about the miles though, some of hte conversion shops did not change the whole speedo unit they only placed a screen print over the existing unit, this leaving the odometer still counting in Kilos even though your speed is calculated in mph. The car is very nice, I saw it a few months ago, however the owner Sal is/was asking $45k my opinion over priced. Any more I can be reached at 704-892-9440 Wade
you can put 328 wheels on a 308, but it may require some adjustment to the hubs....or something in that region. john
Just a few observations: My 308 QV is a Swiss/German spec, and the odometer is in Kilometers, but the speedo is in MPH. The only way to know for sure is to drive it and watch the odometer. Looks like a very nice car- at least form the pix. It looks to be Swiss or German spec, because of the grills in the door intakes. I also question the tubes into the top of the throttle body. I have no idea what those could be, unless somewon added a vac line or two from the warm-up regulator. PM Wade (he already posted) to get his description of the car- since he has already seen it. He helped me when I found mine. I assume that the seller can produce some documentation of recent sevices, since that would influence your offer.
