Finally, after my 9 month FAA debalce and subsequent back in the saddle training, I soloed today at 11AM. Except for ending up a little high on final on my second run, it was pretty uneventful, and that is fine by me! It really is an amazing feeling to actually be PIC. Now, on to the real work...

HEY! HEY! HEY! !!!! And Yee Ha! to you too.

    Congratulations, Tripp!
( That should eliminate at least one "headache" :) )

Well I guess I'm all alone here, for now, as a non-solo'ed member.....(sniff)
Not to worry tho... There'll be others to take yer places!

But ya still gotta save me a spot in the formation....
I Hope to be there soon..

    On your six....

    Thanks, guys!

Switches, ironically enough, I have a strange, probably highly irrational, fear of losing the empenage. I always double check the back on preflight.

Charlie, I think it will happen soon. I can feel it!! As slow as they move, they seem to be pretty decent folks who really do want people to be able to fly. My instructor told me that when he was teaching his wife, she was grounded for a long time because of diabetes medication. She isn't diabetic, but she was on the medication for some other something-or-other. Even though she demonstrated no signs of diabetes in her medical or elsewhere at any time, the fact that she had taken that certain medication was enough to make them put her through the lengthy ringer. She eventually got her medical, though. It just takes them soooo long.

In that case, stay away from those all night back room poker games. :) :)

    Thanks for the encouragement Brian.
Yes, they seem to be making good progress, in spite of some minor setbacks.
I just got a phone call asking for one more piece of info, which can be faxed.
    So..... They're working on it.

From what I gather from reading the AOPA forum's "current AME's" replies to similar cases, only the reports that have serious questions go to the "Super" decision makers. All the rest, get reviewed by mere mortals. Which speeds up the process. There's one report of an SIA, that was passed in only 15 days after submission. ........RARE, but reported. Most are being reviewed within 60 days

Couple that, with the recent and future upgrades to the system, like the proposed "Regional flight surgeon" idea, and extending the interval for reexaminination, as reported by the EAA,

    http://www.eaa.org/communications/eaanews/060331_medical.html

and we may have something to cheer about in a year or two.

No problem, but my name is Tripp :)

Regional flight surgeon, eh? Longer examination periods?? Wow. That works out well for those of us with white coat syndrome! I've been putting off having fresh bloodwork done for about three weeks now. I HATE having blood taken. I get all woosy. I also have a wisdom tooth that needs pulling. I think I may do it myself with a pair of pliers and a chisel.

    Sorry Tripp....
    A minor Brain Fog Attack....

Yes! Doesn't that sure sound great?
    5 year interval, for a 3rd class !
    Woo Wooo!

But I don't think it'll all come to pass. (sigh)
Too much "public perception" of letting things go by without
checks and balances. After all we're just "crazy daredevils" ....

Thanks, Sparky! I don't ask for much, just want to stay off the news and the NTSB website...

Charlie, it's funny you mention the "daredevil" thing. I've been told that I'm extreme, crazy, etc. by what I will refer to as "groundlings". I mentioned it to my instructor, and he agreed that flying doesn't deserve the reputation it has, but added that he had twice been in extreme danger due to someone else's stupudity and had witnessed two planes at opposite ends of the same runway try to take off simultaneously. Not to say stupid things don't happen on the road, but airplane accidents just carry a more potent stigma (decreased survivability?). Think I'll start a new thread, dumbest thing you've ever seen...

Tripp, you just triggered another memorable incident where I faced the exact same thing, an airplane landing in my direction as I was landing. It was a buddy of mine who was a " hotshot" and we were flying down to the Merced Antique fly-in ( Cal.) It was almost dark and we were landing at a small grass field in Oregon. he was somwhere ahead of me and I went ahead and set up to make a landing INTO THE WIND ( no fancy runway numbers). As I flared I looked up ahead and here he is coming at me DOWN WIND. I managed to get the airplane skidded over to the right shoulder and into the grass and luckily he did the same. We passed wing tip to wing tip. No explanation or apology for his lapse. I didn't fly with him much after that.Which brings up another caveat: Choose those with whom you fly very carefully and don't be bashful about telling them that you don't want to fly with them if they show signs of the wrong attitude, ie, poor discipline, sloppy procedure, disdain for tight rules. They are out there and they can kill.

    Jeeze!!

That's good advice. I'll certainly be as selective as possible when it comes to airborne company.
