For you p-car fans this car is quite the animal!!! I believe it to be one of 5 slant BTR's made in 1987. It has a RUF VIN and will take my R6 Yamaha from about 50 mph! It is RWHPing over 450 and shoots very nice flames when it is flogged. She is as much of a motor head as I, must have been a lot of caffeine in the breast milk when we were young. She bought it because she had kids and needed something with a backseat that was faster than her ZR-1. I saw the kids and expected a mini-van and she ends up with this thing!!!! She has owned it for about 6 years.
Oklahoma tags.....car came from South Beach Florida. I believe this to be the 1st non-gray mkt car imported from RUF into the U.S.
This is actually one of 4 factory RUF slantnose cars built during 1987 (I misinformed my bro earlier). Two were coupes and 2 were convertibles. I saw one of the cabs at the new RUF dealership open house in Dallas TX recently (we had 50% of worldwide production at the same place)! I was lucky to find this car, and was really thrilled to meet Alois and Estonia Ruf in person in Dallas! Steve Beddor was there too, selling his Dad's black '98 CTR 2 Sport (only $280,000)! Alois talked about RUF's new prototype (and showed some video), and Steve Beddor indicated that it is an awesome machine to drive. They are currently testing it. This looks like a fun site. Glad to meet all ya'll gearheads!
Do you have any more pics? Maybe of the front, interior and engine compartment? Other than the Ruf wheels, this car looks no different than a slant nose 930. Greg A
I guess that is the beauty of this beast, it is pretty low key. The unsuspecting think it is all show. It has a very small "RUF" emblem on the nose and just under the tail. Other than the wheels the thing looks pretty stock. The interior has RUF gauges. Start the car........you know immediately! I believe it may be a little wider than a stock widebody but sis would know better than I. Any input here Sheila?
sheila, in addition to my "red" cars, i also have a 87 930 w/ an andial biult motor (approx 500 hp @ 1.2 bar). your brother's comments are correct...most motorcycles sans r-1's and gsxr 1000's dont have a chance in the straight line. it really freaks the two whhelers out to have their head handed to them so! i trust you will love your ruf...use it in good health! best, pcb
nope , dimensionally the same...ruf did not take any indecent liberties like others did. ruf was careful to keep the cars tasteful and in spirit (although the new 997 version is ...well...pretty ugly!). there is little stealth built into these cars however, people who are old enough to remember the wraith of the 930's know now that many of those super quick cars are even faster now!!! a bad azz turbo!!!
Yes, those 2-wheelers are VERY surprised when they get thrashed on the highway. I always make a point to allow them to pull back alongside, downshift (this time), hit it, and then pull them again (usually not as badly the 2nd time, as they are better prepared). Most back out, but I did have one stay in it, and we had some good open road, 3 lanes wide, so I stayed in it too....pulling away easily and really putting distance between the RUF and the bike when the speedo swept past 150mph and I started envisioning jail time. I hit the brakes and he caught and flew by as I decelerated. He exited, I exited.....I told him I got the jitters and backed out of it, and that I braked at 150...asked him when he backed out. He said he saw 157. This car has been modified even after Ruf built it....so it is making significant HP (est. 450 RWHP according to Felix at Gulf Performance in Pompano Beach FL). It would not be good to get busted above 150mph...... Too bad we don't train our drivers and use our highways to their full potential!! Here are some pics from Dallas. A yellow CTR II Sport, a black CTR II Sport, and my car parked next to another VERY understated BTR Porsche
What happened to the pics? Please do try your best to attach them. I just flew back from Dallas yesterday...damn, I was so busy with work that I forgot to swing by the new Ruf dealer. :-( I won't make that mistake again. Beautiful Ruf by the way. I also had an 87 930 that I had pretty heavily modded. It ws a monster so I can only imagine what yours must be like. What a machine...
Wicked car, even better attitude . Welcome to Fchat,Sheila. If you're having trouble posting pics, email them to me and i'll post for you. Rgds Tony
Thank you all for the nice compliments. Here are some resized pics from the RUF open house in Dallas. Glad I went...it was a blast! Pics include an , 2 CTR II Sports (both for sale), the slantnose cab (1 of 4 slantnose RUFs), '05 RCT (for sale), and my slantnose coupe parked beside a stealthy BTR. I LOVE the black CTR II (Steve Beddor's dad's car). Wish I had a cool $280K to own it myself! Note Mr. Alois Ruf himself walking by the black CTR II driver's side, brown boots. He and Estonia Ruf were very very nice. He asked to come out and take a look at my car, and he recalled the original buyer and his location (Frederick Sontag, Chicago area)
Awesome, thanks for sharing! RUFs are non existant out here in Los Angeles - they are out there but the chances of spotting one are dreadfully rare.
the black CTR is absolutely perfect. Just curious sheila, do you post on rennlist.com? i know a lot of people would love to have you over there if you arnt all ready. Im over there, i have the same screen name as here. take care, Ryan S.
is this the same kind of car? or the non-ruf model? i saw this car in fort worth right by the kimble, in early june
What kind of bikes are you racing, 87' year 600 cc's? Im pretty sure even the modern 600's would leave that.
