    Hey Gang,

So last May when my car was having it's major, the previous owner had some of the sticky parts addressed - the interior pieces in need but not any parts that were fine. The following were already done when I got the car:

    -F1 Paddles
    -Door Handles
    -Complete center console pieces
    -All switches and switch trim
    -The passenger side HVAC vent
    -Steering column

I reached out to Robbie when I bought the car and he was kind enough to send me the list of parts Algar sent to him - Thanks Robbie!

When I inspected the car, I knew the exterior rear window trim needed to be done but I had no idea that was similar to the interior pieces until I spoke with Robbie.

I've been spending lots of time getting my garage in order and last night I finally got into the car to start tinkering a bit. I plan to send the following to Robbie this week:

-Exterior rear window trim (3 pieces)
    -Radio surround
    -Gauge surround
    -Defroster vent screw caps
    -Mirror triangles
    -Emergency brake handle

Out of all of those, the only parts that are in need now are the rear window trim and the screw caps - the rest is really fine but I figure I'll take care of it now. The defroster vents are fine as well as the targa latches - I mean they appear to be another finish that won't ever get sticky (time will tell).

Anyway, I figured out that the rear window trim has male threaded studs and 7mm nuts hold it on from underneath. See photos (I needed three hands to shoot these so pardon the quality). BTW, the shock covers panels need to be removed to get at some nuts.

Also, the HVAC vents have tabs top and bottom but I found these pull out very easily.

I've got a few pieces to remove and then on to recovering the passenger side airbag. Then a little detailing and leather conditioner and my interior will be as good as new.

Good call with sending them to Robbie. I sent him my entire interior this time last year. He's hard to beat.

I was thinking of doing the work myself (not coz the money), but I've got lots to do in a short period and I want everything done to match.

I'll be buffing the paint myself and that's likely 40 hours alone....

PS Luke, I showed my Dad you car today (coz he loves white cars) and he was speechless.

40 hours on the paint?! Nice. I will ship mine up to you, and you and the old man can admire the whiteness while you make it shine ;)

Seriously though, getting the parts right is harder than most would have you believe. I tried with my parts, and quickly realized it wasn't worth it and shipped them up the road to Robbie.

    Couldn't be happier.

Yes, between clay bar, buff and wax - 40 hours might be low....but, it will be a very satisfying 40 hours :)

Its not as hard as many of you are making out to be. The parts matching has a lot to do with what you use and how you use it. One thing that many are spending way to much time on are the switches...you have to take them apart or you will spend 2 days doing those alone. The ashtray is metal and can be stripped in 1 minute with stripper....not sanding needed. Plus there is always a satisfaction you get when doing it yourself. As for the paint, we have a guy we use up here that has been doing highend cars since the 80s and his company has developed some great chemicals. In 3 hours he can make your car look like it has been freshly painted. Many of the chemicals out there are just fillers. They just fill in the swirls and when you wash your car with soap they are back again. This guys chemicals blends the paint back into itself. He is so good that some collectors fly him in to do their collections.

3 hours? I can't wash and wax my car in 3 hours...take a look at Todd Copperfield-that's the type of work I'm talking about...
