When I restored my Dino, I had Palo Alto Speedometer rebuild all of my gauges (except the clock). They are a Veglia Borletti shop and now everything runs well and looks clean. I will say that at that time, they didn't do a great job crimping the silver rings back on gauges but that's relatively easy to do yourself if you care to have the gauges sit flush on the dash cutout. See http://www.paspeedo.com/ for details.

Ah, sorry about that. It might be a Dinoplex issue as well. Do you have an original Dinoplex on your car and if so, have the electronics been replaced? Superformance in the UK tested my Dinoplex on their Dinoplex Dyno . They sell a kit which replaces the electronics inside the Dinoplex while keeping the big long Dinoplex box in tact. I think the only thing that they couldn't do was keep the coil override switch active which you wouldn't need with modern electronics. Sorry for the confusion.

I've replaced my mechanical Veglia clock movement with a quartz and those chrome rings which secure the faceplate lens/bezel to the casing are tough for me to mount. How did you come by the opinion that it is "relatively easy to do yourself"?

    What is your secret?
When I took them apart I paid special attention to minimize the bending and I can see that I might have to bend that rear edge to allow it to slip over and secure the bezel to the case. To bend that back lip, you've got to apply force which might ruin the chrome edge on the front which is visible when in the Fcar.

    I appreciate your help.

Edited to add: PS - Claus at Palo Alto quoted me $300+ for a quartz conversion, I've bought the Veglia Quartz clocks from '70's FIAT cars for under $50 and the quartz movement is easily swapped onto my faceplates/hands. I read it here on FCHAT (THANKS ALL) and the author of the thread made a new lens out of a CD case. I thought that was rather resourceful.

    "relatively easy to do yourself"?

I was so infuriated with the way that Palo Alto Speedo mounted the rings, I built a jig so that I could securely hold the ring in place and the slowly bend the back of the rings back and later, down with a flat head screwdriver. As with most things, it's relatively easy to do with the right tools. I've just moved but when I unpack my boxes, I'll take a picture of the jig for your reference.

I too did my own quartz conversion of my Dino clock. I bought a working quartz Veglia Borletti clock but they have a different clock face and adjustment screw so I mounted the original mechanical Dino clock face to the quartz clock and worked with a watch maker to mill the time adjusting screw so that it worked on the underlying quartz clock movement and case. I'm embarassed to say how much time I spent on getting it right. That being said, the OEM mechanical clock cost me a fortune and when it died during a concours, I swore I'd teach it a lesson. Thank god I did my Dino restoration before I got married and had a kid. I'd never be able to do that kind of detailed stuff now!

I just bought a Veglia quartz clock that use to be in a Dino Coupe (FIAT) as my mechanical one stops and goes with no apparent reason. The cool thing is that the quartz clock's sweep hand moves like the mechanical one rather than the typical quartz tick. I just thought I would mention that in case people are looking for a replacement clock.

    (2) On another note, my guage lights are very dim even though I took everything out, put in new bulbs and sanded / cleaned all contacts. I tried using the long instrument bulbs vs. the round ones thinking the bulb extention may help but it didn't. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    (3) I also think my Dinoplex C is not working right as my tach goes crazy when it is in the normal position and works fine in the emergency position. Has anyone sent their Dinoplex to Superformance or a place in the US for repairs?

How much voltage are you losing through the rheostat?

Check the grounding resistance if you have a V-O-M.

My Dinoplex left me stranded on the highway once, flatbedded to F Dealer and it started right up for them. I then sent my Dinoplex to permatune (aka Porsche specialist Lenny Lenarduzi in TX) and they gutted the box and installed modern electronics for $250. Since it uses the same case and connectors, it is concours correct but nobody can tell it is aftermarket.
Never failed in over 8 years
