I just got back from test driving the Bugatti Veyron. 1001 HP $1 Million Euros (Which I believe is a very fair price for such a historical vehicle). The experience was out of this world. W 16 Cylinders quad turbo. 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. Top speed 253 MPH. 250 to zero stopping in 10 seconds. Tires in the rear are 21 inch 365s. 4 tires cost 50K! Only 300 will be produced and VW the parent of Bugatti will be taking a loss of 6 Million on each vehicle. 7 speed transmission, double clutch. Shifting is almost incomprehensible as every upper gear is engaged while in a lower one (I.a. when in second, 3rd is already engaged ready to go).

The Veyron has 50% more horse power and 100% more torque than the Enzo!

This car has set such exciting parameters. You can cruise and have a comfortable conversation in a very civilized sort of quiet car, yet as soon as you punch it, it goes crazy. It is very fast and extremely manageable. It was a true joy to drive.

VW is taking such a loss to prove that technology is there. With this kind of marketing, they will make up on future model line ups of Bugatti, possibly 4 to 5 different models, ofcourse at lower prices, according to the representatives.

Bugatti just raised the standard so high that other manufacturers must be going crazy. It is very exciting to see the exotic car industry evolve to these levels. Now let's see how long it will take the Japanese to manufacture a sports car that will compete with the Bugatti at a fraction of the price.

    very interesting.

so how fast were you able to take that beast to? Furthermore, if you don't mind answering, how were you able to secure a test drive in one of those beauties? ANy special requirements other than already owning an exotic? That car has set the standard in automotive engineering for decades to come..

To tell you the truth, I don't know how fast I went. But I did flat out the 1001 HP needle as I saw that with my peripheral vision!

That's cool that you got to do a test drive. I'd love to take that car for a spin, heck I'd love to take one of your cars for a spin. Thanks for sharing your experience & the pics. BTW, it was nice talking to you on Sunday.

I took some shots of the Bug at the show, here's one of mine.

You know since the rent-a-cops at CC are issuing tickets for dealer plates, I wonder if the Veyron will make an appearance at Euro Sunday????

Amazing, thanks for sharing. Does it look better in person? IMO the photos make it look kind of bloated.

Nice to be able to sip a latte while passing 250 mph... and I'm sure Tire Rack can get those $50K tires for like $45K, so no worries there.

If they sell all 300 they will have lost $500k on each vehicle, not $6 million.

The car is not pretty, but after getting to know it, one could care less about the looks. It's all a matter of form following function. As far as the tire cost or the sum of loss per vehicle, these were numbers that I was verbally given by B.H. representatives. If they are Hollywood style exaggerated numbers, I wouldn't know. But these two figures were the ones that did blow me away.

IMO, the most impressive part of the Veyron is not even the horsepower figure or the top speed it acheives. It is that the VW engineers acheived this after being given an general body shape and vehicle size, and then being told to go get 1000hp and 400 kph. Engineers of other supercars had the luxury of designing the underpinnings and they putting a body over it. Now reports seem to indicate the car is very civilized as well.

Nice report, it's always fun to hear about these sorts of things.

To either Allan Lambo, or Bull_Attack - I am launching a car enthusiast website in the next couple months and would love a first hand account of impressions and what not pertaining to the Bugatti. If either if you would be willing to write something up I would be forever greatful. Please feel free to PM me or e-mail me at [email protected]. Thanks guys.
