Cool! Looks like you had a great time! I went to Rome about 7 years ago, I want to go back someday soon and include a trip to Maranello and Modena. I recongnize (A) That Church because I stayed at a hotel a few blocks away down (B) that street! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Some shots of Florence. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Okay, here's one. We went out on Sunday the 2nd to try and find the Eagles game. We started off at a bar called The Drunken Ship because the owners and employees are American. They couldn't get the Philly game but they told us about another bar called The Scene. This place was right down the street and they always played American football on TV. We strolled over there and, sure enough, the Jets vs Ravens game was on. They couldn't get the Eagles game but we were able to get updates over time. Well, it turned out that the bar tender, an Italian guy named Mirko, was a Steelers fan and he started rooting against us. We joked around about each other's teams for a few hours and he made a bet with us. If we won, he would have to supply free shots for us. If we lost, the girls would have to give him a strip tease. Well, the Eagles ended up winning but Mirko got his laugh in the end. He poured us shots of Absinthe. If any of you American folks are unaware of what this liquid is, there is a good reason. Apparently it is illegal in the U.S. We downed the shot (which tasted like death) and he poured another. He had this evil smile on his face as he drank a shot of something completely different. Needless to say, fifteen minutes later, Josie and I felt like we'd been knocked into another dimension. That stuff was strong!! We wandered around the streets for a while and eventually flagged down a cab that brought us back to the hotel.. It was a bit scary for a while though.
Great thread! I was just in Florence and Rome on my honeymoon back in May, and apparently, we stayed at a hotel right down the street from yours (and FarmerDave's) while in Rome. Also, I brought home 2 bottles of Absinthe! hahaha
Haha. Be careful with those! Our hotel was called the Exedra and it was located on the Piazza della Repubblica, right across from the old Diocletian Baths. Via Nazionale actually split the hotel and the building next to it in half.
