Just finished up my own exhaust system on my Cavalino. My first system was an ANSA which I purchased many years ago, it looked ok but resonated badly at 3-4k rpm kind of annoying when cruising but sounded nice before and after. Then I replaced it with a Borla S/S system which was nice and that resonance was gone!! It ran for a few years but the HP bug bit me again so I upgraded turbo, motec etc. and found it restrictive past 450hp. So I replaced it with a 3in straight through muffler and single 3.5in tip which wasnt too great in the looks department and way too loud in the lower rpms. Kind of like those hopped up Hondas & Subies. So I decided to fab up my own with 4 tips using 304 ss and a 3in Corsa muffler. This is a real nice piece with a special resonance chamber and smooth high flowing straight through tube. It is rather large compared to my previous 3in muffler, 8x 10x12in. Check out their website. But the sound blew me away, absolutely no resonance, the lower frequencies were well attenuated and all that is left is a smooth high pitched sound better than the 430 imho!!! Finally i'm satisfied!!!

    Very cool looking!!!

What turbo setup are you using? What is your HP rating?

Looks good. How about a write up on the turbo setup? I'm sure there are people interested in what you have under the hood (myself included).

Don't you love it when someone just casually throws off a statement like that? :) Beautiful car and definitely tell us more about the turbo system.

I am using a Turbonetics T-66 compressor a with .69a/r turbine housing and 3in downpipe. A Spearco air/water intercooler with its own radiator up front.Motec M8 standalone controlling 46 lb/h Bosch injectors, Tial comp wastgate, dual MSD 6A CDI, Magnecore 10mm ign wires and Blaster coils. Over bored throttlebody to 70mm and 3in aluminum cold air intake. JE 10:1 comp pistons which really help the motor pull through before boost gets in at 3K rpm.Solid copper headgaskets and o ringed liners. Heads were fully ported and polished with 2mm os intake, 1mm os exh valves, titanium retainers. Lightweight flywheel and a twin disc carbon/carbon 7 1/4 in Tilton clutch. Both clutch and flywheel weigh 16 lbs. Stock gtsi cams with Nicks beautiful adj. timing gears and upgraded belt system. Bob Norwood fabricated the rear exhaust manifold which bolts up to the turbo, front manifold is stock. I mapped the motor myself on the road (scary!!) Still haven't dynoed the current setup but had it on a dyno 8 years ago just running a Haltech, small 57 series turbo, borla exhaust 32lb injectors which pretty much maxed out at 6200rpm and put out 395rwhp@6000rpm and 360 ft/lbs @4400rpm. It ran real nice but compared to my current setup it now pulls much harder at same 15lbs boost and also past 8K. As far as estimating my hp, I am using 46 lb injectors at 50lb fp which are at near max flow at peak tq (11:1afr) it should support 600hp??? But I will hit the Dynapack in the spring and get some real numbers.

I assume you must have increased the combustion chamber volume to drop the CR down from 10:1. Do you know what the actual CR is now?

The F40 CR for example is 7.8:1.

My heads have been milled to reduce combustion chamber volume to 38cc.Then factoring in a 0.060 gasket and domed piston my compression was intenionally increased to 10:1. Which I know is contrary to the old school rule of lowering comp in forced ind motors. Low comp turbo motors are real dogs before the boost hit like the 911s but if you retard the timing accordingly you can get away with it and spool the turbo much quicker. Great mpg too! But I am limited to maybe 20lbs boost on 94 octane gas.

Way cool. What part number did you use? I would like to do that to my setup.

    Cheers

Very interesting. I've never heard of this approach before. Is it now commonplace?

Does the retarded spark mean there's more unburnt fuel going out the exhaust?

    hell yeah!!!
my car is a hi-compression turbo as well!
works especially well with high revving street motors.
there is no downside in part throttle situations and the turbo spools up much quicker -no lag.
Ferrari engine produce next to no torque in the first place, last thing you want to do is drop compression

low compression turbo motors are awesome in low revving engines that always live very close to its powerband.

incredible car, Norpower. looks great! :)

Thanks!! Yes it is a blast, things happen real fast when you get on it. Feels as though the gearing is too short now. If I could only squeeze in a sixth gear !!! Still would like to lighten it up a little more with a CF rear lid with some lexan so I can see the motor. But who can put that together? I bought the seats from some guy with an RX7 racecar and don't know the brand, I just had them partially recovered with yellow Alcantara-like fabric.

Just came upon this thread AWESOME

the mustang crowd makes use of hi compression motors with forced induction all the time, a great combo with a motec or similar sytem tying it all together.
