I bought my car four years ago just after a major. Not sure what kind of manual transmission fluid was in it. Drove for a while with it and kept reading here about Redline NS and drained and filled with it. Last year I decided that the enemy of good was better, so I drained and filled with Royal Purple. This spring I drained and filled with Redline lightweight shockproof. Here are my observations.

Redline NS: huge improvement over whatever was in it. Minimal pre-warm up residual grinding of gears in second and third. Very soft feel once moderately warmed up and to full temp.

Royal Purple: Worse than whatever it had after major. Required the 5-7 minute idle from cold to not "grind" second and third. Once warmed up was fine. We are talking full temp being necessary though.

Redline LW shockproof: best cold performance. Can just take off when cold and not feel second and third. Feels the most heavy or "thick" even when warm, but who cares really.

Was the first stuff you drained very dirty? Just in fairness, if it was black, maybe a second go around with the RL ns might be even better a second time.
Just in case you were still in a sense flushing out more dirty stuff that was left behind on initial change.
