    HA!

Today they announced that Fiat of all manufactures is seriously looking to build it's North American Alfa Romeo plant here in my City,,OMG...

This would be HUGE for this place, Not only are we starting to explode with OIL, Uranium and Potash now Fiats and Alfas....

I guess Fiat owns some large agricultural machine co that just happens to be built here, New Case Holland tractors I think, anyhoo they will convert one of those Plants to build Alfas for North America.

I would give up the Bar Life to work for my Mother Country...

    Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmaybe not.....:D

Oh boy, here we go again....
I only hope it is not one of those ill devised and half motivated attempts that have made the italian brands infamous in the past.
Every time I see a Hyundai or a Kia today I ask myself why FIAT, ALFA and LANCIA could not make it, in spite of their much longer experience and heritage...
Good luck Roberto, I hope you will not be disppointed.

I heard on the news that they were also in talks wtih Chrysler to take over one of their old plants.....

The alfa's are well made now a days and I think they'd sell well here. I'd love to drive around in an alfa 159 sportwagon as a daily driver. I hope they do this soon

This has a good chance of happening because of the FIAT management's Canadian connection.

Pretty sure they would also give great tax breaks, although Alfa is dreaming again about sales. They say 20,000 units in the first year. I will eat my computer if they sell half that in the first year.
I like my new Alfa's two years old so that I can take advantage of the 60% loss/discount all newer Alfa's offer!!

I wouldn't be so quick to poo poo Fiat, they did ensure Ferrari's continued F1 involvement in the 60's....when it came time to save his company so he could still go racing, there was only one family that Enzo could or would turn to, the Agnellis. Besides they're still fun cars. And for those that don't know, Fiat is actually like the GM of Europe in terms of production. Most Americans association with Fiat is that familiar "Fix it again Tony" thing...more because they have nothing better to say than an actual awareness of the brand. But....Fiat did suffer quality issues in the US, ultimately leading to their withdrawl from the market, but that might change.

Fiat as a brand will likely not make a re-entry into the market. Alfa will though, in 2009, they will be sold through Ferrari/Maserati dealerships. The main Fiat thing right now is the success of the 500. Marchionne of Fiat wants to do the "Mini" thing here in the US like BMW did. Thing is...where do you sell them? You can't sell Fiats at a Ferrari dealership. GM and Fiat "divorced" a few years ago for 2 billion dollars. Ford is already going to use the platform of the 500 for it's "KA" car. Fiat's dealership network dried up in the early 80's and they left with their tale tucked and consumers throwing rocks at both them and the cars.

It's hard to say how they'll sell the 500. The three Alfas slated for release are the 159 sedan, Brera coupe, and Spider convertible.

not a bad idea.. Now Americans can embrace lower end italian engineering... Instead of a 335ci one may go for an Alfa GT now.
