Just saw and read this comment about the FF. I agree 100%! What a magnific automobile... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just found this photo taken in the GP of England 1959. You can see how the pits looked like at the time. Racing was a real sport... Very little money, no seat-belts, no guard-rails etc... The Cooper pit (Jack Brabham and Bruce McLaren). I am down talking to my gentle and good friend Bruce McLaren before the race. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
S/N 05 would be a 375 GP in Ecclestone's collection, coming as some other cars from the former Obrist-collection. 05's Race History can be viewed here: http://www.f-register.com/downloads/formula_racing.xls Matthias Urban F-Register.com
Wonderful images and history. Keep them coming, im loving this thread. Do you still follow F1 today Fritz? Do you attend many races?
Yes, I do watch F1 on TV. But really without passion. Now its mainly a matter of money, more a video-game than a sport. Old people like me had the privilege of watching F1 in the '50s and '60s. No eletronics, no seat-belts, no guard-rails, lots of courage, of glamour and warm relations... The great Fangio brought me to Europe and F1, Ascari, my dear friends Bruce McLaren and Phil Hill... Many others!!! Lots of wheel drifts. The racing driver comanding everything and the best winning. Ernest Hemingway in the '50s: “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games.” Now kind of eletronic game... No, I don't attend the races anymore. Image Unavailable, Please Login
The closest finish in history? Nothing like eletronics and slip streaming to produce great finishes. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp1klmtsWQA]2013 Firestone Indy Lights Close Finish! Freedom 100 4 Wide Finish - YouTube[/ame]

Happy Birthday Mr. Fritz d'Orey !!! Feliz aniversário! Nice article about your life published in the local magazine "Topos&Clássicos". Recommended reading for all my Portuguese friends (and Brazilians!)

Received today a Morgan 4/4 for companion to my Ferrari FF. The opposites touchs... Fun!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login
My FERRARI FF is one year old on June fifteenth and no other car in my long life has given me so much pleasure... Now with 12k miles and not one single problem. Next week will take her to Ferrari shop in Lisbon for the first revision. Changing oil etc... Probably adjournement of softwares, right? My white F12 will arrive probably in August and really wonder which one will be my favorite!!! Drove two different F12s and am pending to the FF... Took a iPhone5 photo minutes ago arriving at my place. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I agree Fritz. My FF is also nearly a year old (since I got it, it was a dealer demo for a few months before that) and I love it more and more every time I drive it. During the summer months I'm mostly driving it on rainy days and it sure makes those days a lot more enjoyable! The combination of control and stability on rainy days is confidence inspiring to the point that you don't have to stress about driving a Ferrari in slippery conditions and you can enjoy the drive.
I have both. Use the ff more, similar steering, easier to get in and out, really just as fast..only may notice on a track with professional drivers. Both are such perfect machines but we have kids so the ff seems to be the pick of the litter. The ff is difficult for some around the look but I had the same issue with my 612. Now I look at the ff and really think it is elegant while also very purposeful. I will add more detail when later when I can type on an actual keyboard not the tablet
Fritz, Let me see if I can try to grab the different characters of the cars... 458: fast little cat that zips from place to place in perfect balance and harmony and will gladly slide around a corner if that's what you desire while still not scaring you too much and letting you feel like a great driver. Perfect for the track but fun on the highway. Great for a quick run around town or country. Need to be more careful in bad weather. Room for two and a very small amount of cargo. Great raspy high-pitched sound. Sounds amazing with the windows (or just rear window) down. FF: ferocious beast that erupts when you push it and can eat up corners but can also coast comfortably along in luxury and style with lots room for people and their gear. Perfect for the highway but fun on the track. Great for a trip to a store or a long run around town or country. Perfectly poised in bad weather. Room comfortably for four and a decent amount of cargo or for two and a large amount of cargo. Great throaty powerful sound but relatively quiet inside with the windows up during normal driving. Bottom line: I love both and they both seem to have their right time and moments.
Great description of both cars but I don't think you have to be too worried about Fritz being scared sliding around corners - he probably does it every chance he gets
Thank you for the wonderful explanation! You conviced me and I will get a new 458 Spider. the available is Blu Pozzi with beige interior. What do you think of this color? I never saw one. I wanted a Bianco Avus with cuoio interior as my FF but it would take time that at 75 I don't want to waist... Thank you again!!!!
I think it will be fantastic! You're going to love the Spider! Mine is Rossa Corsa over Cuoio but I sometimes think maybe I should have gone for a less look-at-me color. I figured with a silver FF the other Ferrari should be red and it looks great in that color. Ferrari offers so many beautiful non-red colors like Blu Pozzi, Bianco Italia and Canna Di Facile. My FF is Argento Nurburgring which I think is great on the FF.
Fritz, I'm actually writing this while waiting for my flight to Rome to depart. I'm going to tour the Ferrari factory on Tuesday so I'll keep my eye out for Blu Pozzi cars to see how they look in person. When I was in Ferrari's New York showroom specifying my 458 with the Atelier they had a blue spider and it was absolutely gorgeous. I think it was Tour de France blue however. I would have bought right there at that moment if they had been willing to sell it but, they weren't.
This was in the NYC showroom last summer - not sure which blue Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I saw that car. It's beautiful! I think that's Tour de France blue but my memory isn't perfect on this.
