I'm about to have the shortest career as a Testarossa owner ever!
For the first time since I've owned the car (bought it early April 2019) I took the TR over to the garage that I rent to park it. This is an extremely nice two car garage that my neighbor owns and rents to me. It is just 3 blocks away.....walking distance. I found that if I rent a space that I have to drive to that it just isn't worth the hassle.
Anyway, as I was backing out of the driveway this happened !!!
I will be able to get this fixed of course, but unfortunately this means I will no longer be able to use that parking space. That is a very material issue to me.
The fact is I have too many other cars that I am swapping around and if I have to keep the testarossa at my house permanently I will not have garage space for the other cars.
I know I know I’m going to hear a million things like “just go rent another space somewhere else” but the area that I live in it is not as simple as that. Much easier said than done!
Anyway, somebody is going to get a great car for a great price. I won’t be listing the car officially for a while but I thought I should at least post this here in case anybody would have an interest or know anybody that would.
Those who have read my link ‘ finally bought a white testarossa ‘ you can see that I paid $93,500 for the car. I also had a new Capristo exhaust put on the car for about $5500. Sounds AMAZING! The mechanic also put in the little plug-in that hangs out the front grill where you can easily plug-in the car to be charged. So much easier than trying to hook up to the battery.
Sales tax and shipping was another $8000*. And a few other minor things have been done as well. Net net I have about 110 grand into the car.
I’d be willing to sell it for what I paid. $93.5K (of course the valance issue would be fixed before I officially list the car)
The car is in fantastic shape! The paint is impeccable. The interior as well. AC blows cold. FULL engine out and a $20,000 servicing done just 11 months ago. 14,700 miles.
I absolutely love the car but unfortunately, given my parking issues this particular car just isn’t going to work for me in the long run.
In 28 years of trading I have learned that when it’s time to move on it is better to do so sooner than later. Your first loss is your best loss.
Anyway, if any interest or any thoughts as to the best way to market this car please let me know. The car definitely will be getting sold, though.
    Thanks

this is the work that was done to my car last summer (August 2018):

$8,110 for a 30K service (full engine out , leakdown test, all cylinders under 10%, replace belts, checked timing: OK, replace cam belts and tensioner bearings, replace valve cover gaskets, cam shaft seals and O-rings. Replace spark plugs, reseal water pump, change oil and filter, change transaxle oil, fill and bleed coolant system, flush brake and clutch systems. Refill A/C system, Pressure check and a road test)

$750 to powder coat valve covers and cleaner
    $4,003 Clutch assembly
    $638 Fuel pressure regulator
$180 Drain fuel tank....replace fuel tank cross over hose
$380 replace battery, hold downs and cable
    $140 hood insulation pads
    $316 front hood shocks
$165 Fuse panel inspect, clean and service fuse panel

The total came to $15,330 (a few other minor things done as well).

Then the car had this work done to it:

$1,470 Remove seats and disassemble interior to install customer supplied carpet kit (Interior now looks great!) Replace front speakers. Reassemble
$700 remove door panels and install Rodney Dickman window speed accelerators. Clean and lubricate window mechanism. Reassemble
    $280 remove aftermarket wiring
    $800 4 new tires
$680 make and install test pipes

The total for this work was $4,000

Other invoices for minor items was about $1,000

The seats were also re-dyed but I can't seem to find the invoice for that job.

The front bumper was removed and resprayed ......so there are zero scratches or chips now

Black trim around the bottom of the car repainted to look more "black" again.

    Replaced marker lights

The dash does have the typical TR shrinkage, unfortunately. The past owner bought a new dash and had it color matched to the rest of the car. It was not installed before he traded the car in but it comes with the car. The guy that will be working on the car for me mentions that it takes a lot of work to install this piece. Probably $2500-$3,000. So I have to determine whether I want to do that or not. The car currently has a "cover" for the top of the dash in the meantime.

He also went out and bought a new owners manual for the car and a few other things (a leather pouch?? Not sure what he meant by that exactly). It is not the luggage, though.

So, net net, $20K plus of work was done to the car in the past 6 months

The car also comes with a new red satin car cover

OK....it wasn't really my intention to have it in the classified ad section (I originally posted in in the Testarossa section as more of an informational message) but it is what it is I guess

    Wow....that was a short ride!

I'd like to ask an honest question. Is it really the garage situation or because you're in the markets, a return to liquidity....do you see the writing on the wall?

Either way, sorry to see you go...especially after achieving a life long dream. We sure did share your excitement.

    Hopefully, you might reconsider.

Shamile, it's 100% purely a garage situation. I don't "see the writing on the wall" per se :)

I've never listed a car for sale on FChat. So I didn't realize that by stating a price that I'd accept were the conditions to list the car in classified section. I certainly would have put more time, attention, and detail in to a "formal" sales ad. Thanks

Sorry to hear about your garage situation. One thought or idea for you could be if you have room on your property would be to buy a canvas carport. I know of other car collectors that don’t have room and they buy those and park under. Then put your car cover on as well. The car would be very much protected and you would have greater access to the car as it would be at your home. Just an idea if you have the room. You put a lot of energy and money into that car and I hate to see you sell it without exhausting all ideas to keep it. You have a great car. If you do sell I would just post in the classified section here as you have it aggressively priced given its condition, mileage and recent work done. I don’t think it will take too long to sell. I would also list on eBay just for exposure only. Great place for that. Good luck in what ever you do with the car.

Its frustrating to damage a car in a routine maneuver.

It sounds like you have certainly "put into it" what needed to be done, plus some extras!!
I guess post the interior shots.

It would be no big deal to a specialist to do the dash pad you just rip the whole car apart and put it in!
Your bill for the engine service far outweighs that trifle.

Thanks Zeff. Believe me, over the years I have explored ALL options for parking at my home. I live in the city and though the houses are large, the lots are small.

If you were ever going to buy another one this would be it. You know that’s a good deal with all that’s been done to this car.

Wow, sorry to see this. Somebody is going to get a sweet deal, I would have bought it if I didn't already have one.

I also agree that Monterrey would be the place to sell a 14K mile TR. I suspect it will go over the $100K mark easily, well worth the try.

I think u guys are wrong. If the car was sold for 93.5k to
Parnelli and it sat a few months at the dealer at 119k and didnt sell
What makes u think he would get way more than what he paid for ? I agree 93.5k is a bit low...

That being said I’m telling Greg not to sell it at that price and also taking a step back. It’s an impulse sell...
From speaking with Greg often I know he is very thorough and I had a feeling this could be a disappointing car for him...

Have you been to Monterrey? Seriously deep pocket buyers there, this car screams Monterrey. Testarossas have historically done much better there than any dealer could ever get on the planet.
