The picture wasn't made by him I just think it's pointing out the fact that half of the people on myspace are whiny emo kids.

So what do you estimate that Tom walks away with after its all said and done?

The company sold for 580M but I would think there are investors etc..

This kind of reminds me of bluemountain.com and how Jared Polis sold it for 780 million at the age of 24!!

    http://news.com.com/ExciteHome+buys+online+greeting+card+site+for+780+million/2100-1040_3-231860.html

I wondered how much of that he actually kept so I did some reading and discovered that he has a net worth of $174 million according to this:

    http://www.bizjournals.com/denver/stories/2003/04/21/daily34.html

I was suprised it was only 174M not that its chump change or anything, especially at his age.

So how much of the 580 do you think Tom gets?

Props to Tom for banking off the pretentious dorks at myspace (even though i'm on there, ha). 580 mil though, that's totally crazy.

Good lord thats a lot of money, even 174 million is a lot of money. I had no idea Tom was profiting off of myspace that much. At least it serves as a little inspiration for me. Im determined to make money off of other people :)

Rumor has it (prior to the buyout), MySpace was pulling in 1-2 million a day.

Who is this Tom person? Everyone is talking like they know him. I couldn't find him listed anywhere as an owner or director of the company.

There's a small piece about it in the WSJ, (page D2 ?) they reported that it's in the top 30th of websites most visited.

I think it's a fad like Friendster was, good luck NewsCorp.

Anyone that's already on there, time to start a "All Hail Rupert Murdock" group!!

im pretty sure he is just the face for the website. every member gets him as a "friend" when you first sign up. its just a way for the company to post news or updated without the "admin" doing it.

seeing as it was part of a larger company, i find it hard to belive they still had one guy head of the whole website, specially considering how large it is

Okay I got all the details. The story got greatly exagerated from what everyone is saying. Below is the details.

    - Tom was 1 of 25 people who created Myspace.com
    - Myspace.com is owned by Intermix Media Inc.
    - Intermix Media Inc. was sold for $580,000,000.00 (Not Myspace.com)
    - Tom holds no position of authority in Intermix Media Inc. (Look at their BoD and Executive Staff list)

I actually did some research as well. Intermix owns half of myspace. Myspace was founded by Chris Dewolfe, CEO and Tom Anderson, President. (not sure if there were any other founders but Chris and Tom are the main guys and they control the site.) Myspace is ranked 25th globally on internet traffic.

Check Alexa.com... that gives a pretty good idea of traffic rankings. MySpace is ranked 26 right now. Friendster, btw, is 80.

Social networking is all the rage right now, and I don't know of many high school kids that *aren't* on MySpace. Its not going away any time soon.

Its very exciting right now on the Internet... the money is in monetizing traffic by targeting ads. The advertising companies are sharing the pie because the ads actually convert. There is a LOT of money out there if you have the traffic.
