Which Ferrari is this...?
Pretty amazing that the Mythos prototype was made 15 years ago. It looks really modern. Ok, what about that one in the background then....???
That's a cool design study also. I don't know the name but it's 550 based I believe. The turn indicators blink at the top of those fins, behind the front wheels!
The Mythos is available as a die-cast model. The car in the background is a pontoon-fendered, TR-inspired design study, the name escapes me at the moment. KevFla
The Mythos is indeed a design study, but doesn't have anything serious to do with the 512 TR or with the F50. It's just a design study ... The car in the background is the Pininfarina Rossa, indeed based on a 550 Maranello.
The Mythos was a proposal for the TR replacement, IIRC. It is powered by a TR motor and chassis, again from my memory here. I have a 1:18 of it.
For those who care: 104982 was one of the "pre-production" 550 Maranello's which were used during the presentation at the Nurburgring in Germany in 1996. It was red and driven by Fisichella ...
Don't think the Mythos was a total 1-off. I think the Sultan of Brunei had one made - I think somewhere in the range of 3 to 6 were made. I met the owner of the Arbarth museum in Japan about 7 or 8 years ago and he had the original Mythos given to him by Pininfarina as a gift.
The Mythos is indeed based on a Testarossa. It has a Testarossa engine and a chassis which is also derived from the Testarossa. But I can't imagine that it has anything to do with the 512 TR. Developing that car was a completely different project. In fact, the development of the 512 TR already started in 1987, before the Mythos, which started in 1988. Dan, you're right: the Sultan of Brunei has three "Mythos Replicas", a red one, a black one and a blue one. All coupes and RHD. See my webpage, www.red-headed.com.
I'll guess the sultan of Brunei had some strange creatures made, like a Ferrari 355 Estate. I believe it was a von Genaddi design.
I guess you mean 456 Estate, instead of 355? He indeed has several 456 "Venice" cars (Estate, Convertible and Sedan versions).
