Hi- My battery was dead when I went to drive my beauty yesterday, so got out the trickle charger and recharged the battery.

In doing this, I noticed this black air hose(?) with an "L" shaped connector on the end. The hose goes back into the firewall and for the life of me I cannot locate where this should connect to under the dash. I have looked everywhere.

Does anyone know what this is and a general location that it connects to I can find that and re-connect it?
    Thanks

That is the overflow drain hose for the battery. It should plug into the battery and drain downwards.

Overflow? I thought it is used to vent hydrogen.

Hydrogen is not easily contained by battery cases or plastic tubing....it readily escapes through most seals. While I suppose there may be some intent to vent Hydrogen with that line, it is really for the rare event of an overcharged, overfilled or agitated battery venting fluid. Here is a typical patent for such a design: http://www.google.com/patents?id=spcUAAAAEBAJ&zoom=4&pg=PA1#v=onepage&q=&f=false

They are required on batteries placed in the interior to vent hydrogen. Those batteries have more than enough interior space for fluid expansion.

The MTP-91 Interstate battery comes with vent tubes that connect to the OEM vent.

    Quite important to have connected.

He just wanted to know where the hose goes not the anatomy of a battery.

Most likely through a hole to the ground. I thought it was for fluid as I've seen battery trays in other cars rusted when the tube is not connected. Hydrogen should just float away.

Am I wrong... but do these "sealed" batteries even need that? Is there even a vent port on the battery for it ?

According to the interwebs, even sealed lead acid batteries could encounter circumstances which cause out gassing.
