My US spec 1986 328 GTS has two mini rocker switches in the back of the cavity on the leftmost side of the dashboard. The manual doesn't show the switches and I can't tell what they're supposed to do. Has anyone solved this mystery? Thanks.

My 83 308 QV has the same thing in the same place....they operate the fog/driving lights that were installed by dealer at time of delivery.

My 308 also has 2 mystery switches, figured out one is an ignition cut installed by the dealer, other I still haven't bothered to track down. You never know what people have put in. See if they do anything obvious like kill the engine or turn lights on/off, check with headlights both on and off. If not, all you could do is trace the wires, which can be a royal pain, and why after a year one of my switches remains a mystery.

If its not to much trouble could you post a pic of where those switches are.I also have an 83 qv. Mine has fog lights which I have never been able to figure out how to turn them on. Maybe I have those switches.

I can take a photo tonight....but the switches are hidden in the back of the "cavity" on the dashboard on the left size of the steering wheel that I would call "a place to put loose change." Let me know if that doesn't make sense and I can take a photo.

There is a modification to turn on the running lights that requires two momentary contact switches. On and off that may been added by the PO. With ignition on press one then the other you should hear a click that is a relay activated by the on button then check your running lights. One switch is make contact the other is a break contact. The location described is a very common one for this modification. At least that is where mine resides.

I will check when I go home. I never looked for any switches just assumed they should work off one of the stalks on the column, which they do not. That would be great if there are switches.

Are you sure those "fog lights" aren't "flash to pass" lights? My '77 308 had what looked like "fog lights", but were the FTP lights. Pulling back on one of the left-hand stalks activated them momentarily.

    Just a thought....

Thanks for the input. I have tried that but stalks do nothing for my fog lights. I guess at some point in time I will figure it out. Fortunately they are not that important.

I would guess that one of them is a switch to manually turn on the radiator cooling fans. Many of us have them installed in that location, and they are not factory, but rather something either a dealer or previous owner installed in the event that the thermoswitch fails.

Manual cooling fans overrride is a popular mod - can't see that for two switches, though. Paul's parking light mod requires two switches - are they momentary on/off?

Incidentally, there must be about 10 different ways the fog lamps were wired up by the factory; my manual says it's flash to pass, but they only come on when I flash from low beam - they come on continually with high beam

My 83 does not have those switches; just an early 80's radar detector in there.
Would like to see a photo though...
    Thanks

I have an 83 model GTS QV, euro. No switches at all in this area. My lights only operate after pulling the indicator stalk forward, so are a flash to pass setup.
