The sign from the other side of the trailer sold for $51,000 almost three years ago. It was in slightly better condition.

for not even 10 % of this sum you can let one sign print/paint, put it for 1 or 2 years in the sun and it looks equal.
    I think it is about 3 m wide and 1 m high?

I never would pay for a sign so much money

I still have some large ferrari plastic shields ( about 1,20 high and 70 cm wide ) with light behind in my basement at home. think I will sell those because have no repairshop anymore. only 1 I will keep for my private garage. will be at home beginning of may and will post then here at ferrarichat

I don't know Tom, only spoken to him on the phone a few times, but he certainly seems to be living a life very well lived.

When the late Will Haible purchased the parts inventory from Chinetti Motors he also acquired one of the NART trailers which was at one time parked behind Will’s shop in San Leandro. The sign was on the trailer last I saw it.

Will was a kind hearted sole and unfortunately was taken advantage of by several people in California.
He and I inventoried all the race car parts in preparation for a sale to my employers at the time, Peter Sachs and Peter Livanos. They purchased most everything

Yes I know. Will was a long term friend of ours too. We spent a great deal of time with him not only when he broke his leg or ankle or whatever back at home but also when he was sick. People taking advantage long predated when he fell ill. He liked and trusted too many.

The prior owner of his Monza was it? was a good friend of ours too and we managed to get the two of them to bury their hatchets and in Wills later days he and Bob got pretty close. A good story about that for another time. Miss Will. He was a regular guest at our house when we were in CoCo County.

Wow does the name of Will Haible bring back memories! First to clear the air about his car, it was 0428 originally a S1 500 M Mondial which was updated by the factory with a 735S motor, so I guess you can call it a Monza although not entirely correct. It has been over 20 years since he fell off his boat in Maine and broke his leg, which then led to multiple medical issues as you may know. We spent many hours on the phone and on email attempting to arrange a motor swap with Jan Biekens so that his 0536 500 Mondial S2 could have the right motor which Will had. It never came to pass for a variety of reasons. Our conversations ranged all the way from exhaust gasket thicknesses to speculation on the mysterious internal motor number 17M. It has been nearly three years since he passed and I still miss him. Brian, thanks for jogging my memory.

    Best regards,

    Robert

Yes, you are correct about the car, 4 cyl race cars were never my area of expertise.

When he broke his leg I used to pick him up and take him shopping. With a cast on and no automatics he could not drive himself. It was then I discovered he needed shaving soap because he still used a brush and mug and a straight razor. Will would have been right at home in the 1890s.

In his last days in California there was a local car show near where we lived. The area had many Ferrari owners so the show had a good number of great cars. There was also a party afterwords hosted by the former owner of Wills car and his wife, good friends of ours. It was always well attended by the local Ferrari crowd. Leslie and I knew it would be the last chance for many to see Will and he them. We worked hard at convincing Will to attend. We were flying out from Texas just for this because we had so many friends there and Will was top of the list. It was only under the condition I picked him up, took him and brought him back home when he ran out of steam which he predicted would not take long. Anything for Will. Well he was so energized I think we were the last to leave. I kept checking if he was ready to go and he kept saying "Another half hour?" I had to still drive him from CoCo County to Berkeley and get back to a friends house where we were staying about 2 miles from the party.
    Last time I saw him.

Brian, thank you for sharing that story. My last visit with him was memorable also. After picking up sandwiches for lunch Will took me to a State Park nearby. I don't know the name however there were several switchbacks on the way to the top of a mountain with an incredible view of the Bay area. We sat on the edge of a cliff eating lunch and watching Golden Eagles soar on the wind currents nearby, it was surreal. A very serene moment which appeared routine for him but was unforgetable for me. I miss him.

A lot of people don't know Will was a geologist. Wills days in the US Navy were spent helping to develop the SOSUS system for submarine detection. Marine biologists, geologists and computer gurus taught computer systems how to listen to under water sounds. They taught them to ignore geologic and marine life noise. Anything left was man made, a submarine. I believe they were working in Iceland.
