I'm about 99 percent sure that's your cold start valve... the can (vacuum) is just part of it https://www.birdman308.com/service/cold_start/cold_start.htm
That's part of the ill-advised USA spec "rev the engine idle while it is stone cold" system. See picture - You'd be well off to replace the top bits shown with the Euro spec bottom part, as I did. Image Unavailable, Please Login
even with the exact name of the part, I cannot locate it out on Eurospares or any of the exploded diagrams. Your method sounds good, but better to just bypass like it said in the bird an thread?
As I recall, I first found these parts (many years ago) on the Ferrariparts.co.uk exploded diagrams for the USA market. And I then called up their similar view for the same engine area, but now for the non-USA market. Comparing these two diagrams, you can easily spot the differences and then order the non-USA part if you desire a 'cleaner' installation. DM
That's because it is a US version only part and none of the F part Suppliers have a US version 308i-2V SPC online. You can get a copy of the 222/81 SPC for US version 1981-82 308i here: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ynkrigf7b4wt3g6s0v8b2/Spare-Parts-Catalogue-81-82-US-version-308i-222_81.pdf?rlkey=myo0xs566mwl1wzkic2hre6fx&st=n9585h69&dl=0 See TAV 12, item 35 (your 1980 is the same system).
Thank you Steve for sending the link. It clearly is right there on the US spec diagram. Part 115413. I am going to go ahead and try plugging off the "Valve for cold starting" and see if that cures the idle issue. Plan B, replace the valve. Thanks to everyone!
No, but MCP has this SPC information online for the carb euro 308 B/S: https://www.ferrariparts.co.uk/diagram/ferrari/308-gtb-gts-carburetor
