Who can name all of these drivers? There's a bonus if you can also name the little boy. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Bruce Mclaren, Stirling Moss, Tony Brooks, Graham Hill, Jo Bonnier, Wolfgang von Trips. Is the child Damon Hill?
I think you're right. Damon was born on 17th of September 1960. Von Trips died on 10th of September 1961.
The photo was taken in the front garden of Graham Hill's house at Mill Hill, North London, during a drivers' reunion at his place. In those pre-social media days, there was a lot of conviviality among drivers. Happy times !!!
I managed to know them all including Damon Hill. On the subject of Damon check out this extraordinary photo from Monaco 1988. There is Hill (in the green shirt) watching Prost exit Portier. They would be teammates just 5 years later Image Unavailable, Please Login
Same here, Bruce. For us “seasoned” guys that quiz was fish in a barrel. And they knew how to dress…Tailored garments with not a logo to be seen.
btw Damon tweeted (X'd?) this pic after Tony Brooks passed away in 2022. Tweet— Twitter API (@user) date
I met Tony Brooks at a Brooklands Reunion years ago (in the 90s) which he attended. At that time he had a FIAT garage* not far from the historical track, South of London. As guest of honour, he gave a short speech, to open the event. *After retiring from racing, Brooks didn't go back to dentistry, but bought the former premises of Eric Fernihough, a pre-war motorcycle racer at Brooklands, who had opened a workshop near the track. Fernihough once held the Motorcycle Land Speed Record, and was trying to gain it back from Ernst Henne and BMW when he met his death after losing control of his JAP-powered bike.
