Aha: I know: We've seen this in business: Podunkco buys financially-strapped Brandco. The merged company will be called "Brandco". The new series will be called .... Formula One. We're not really talking about a "split" here. With the teams that are leaving, F1 would be dead. So, we may see a "split", the collapse of F1, and the new series picking up the wreckage of F1 ... along with the name. Isn't that how Bernie got his job? Moving the F1 name from FISA to FOM? Okay, there might be a year with FOM clinging to the name, trying to hang on. But eventually, I expect there'll be one series -- under the F1 name -- without Max. Which is the point, ainna?
New series: Formula Fun F-1.2 Formula Libre Baby Formula Old series: Formule BuM (Bernie und Max) F- (Fail!) Formula None F-1 World Championship Powered By Cosworth And Entered By Williams & That Mallya Guy
It will either be under LeMans or Dorna Sports. If FOTA goes to LeMans - FLM - Formula LeMans If FOTA goes to Dorna - GPWRL - Grand Prix World Racing League How about - "Constructors Grand Prix World Championship" - ??? One question though - Will the FOTA have to change is name as well? They will for the time being not be FORMULA ONE TEAMS.
Chapter IV: A New Hope. In defiance of the Evil Empire, the Rebel Aliance is setting up it's new series to replace F1: OB1 (Help me OB1, you're our only hope!) Use the Force, Luca. (Uncle Owen, this Kimi's motivator unit is shot!) Meanwhile, in Dungeon Max at the Death (of F1) Star: "Now Fraulein, let us discuss the location of the rebel (financial) base."
BMW, DaimlerChrysler AG, Fiat S.P.A., Ford Motor Company and Renault S.A. back in 2001, jointly registered the Community Trade Mark (EU): GRAND PRIX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
David - great name but unfortunately already a series and they would have to do some serious changes on the cars!!!! btw that's some downright diggin' in the racing there! Carol
I agree with Kirill's first take on this, it should be called Formula 1. If the new series happens it will be the continuing legacy of the true spirit and intent of Formula 1, not what FIA is trying to turn it into. There seem to be (at least) two scenarios evolving right now. 1) FOTA is committed to a new series and doesn't care what FIA does. 2) FIA tosses Max out and restructures the agreement with Bernie so that the teams get more of the money, FOTA has more say in governance, and more say on the technical regs. If 1) happens, Bernie may be so strapped for money that he would sell the name. I don't really think it would happen. It is just the right thing to have happen if the F1 world wasn't upside down. The really interesting thing that is happening right now is that while Bernie is raving about FOTA not being able to put a full slate of cars on a grid, it may in fact be Formula 1 that can't field a full grid. If Formula 1 collapsed completely and went out of business, who knows, maybe the name could be purchased in bankruptcy court.
