Been putting something together and I have one of those minor brain issues (can't remember sh()t today) Race series that have come blown up and gone into the past... (Currnet) FIA IRL ChampCar Nascar (and it's children) Craftsman Truck, Busch, ARCA... SCCA Been there done that IMSA SportCar USAC AAA Please help me out with others on both today and yesterday Not only big but things like Toyota Atlantic and the Rothmans Porsche cup etc
My favorite series from the past has to be CanAm. Shadow, McLaren, Chaparral, Porsche, and others - all contributed to an excellent series. Ferrari even gave it a try but with little success. Sadly the series only lasted a few years and we're not likely to see anything quite like it again. John
Know the feeling well. Seems I've have had more than my fair share of days like that lately. There is comfort in knowing I'm not alone when it comes to crainial shutdown. John
My absolute favourite: Procar It was a concept in the early eighties where the F1 stars would race identical BMW M1 before a GP. It was a blast!
For rallying, SCCA is out, NASA (Nat. Auto Sport Assoc) now has USRC (new for '05). I think IRL is under USAC.
Yes, that too...but the Mille Miglia had as many as 500 entries some years...plus I like all the diversity in classes and the number of different "marques" entered, especially in the small displacement sports-car classes. The number of people willing to build what were basically Fiat 500 and 1100 Italian "hot-rods" is something I find appealing.
The IRL kicked out USAC after they messed up the timing and scoring of thier races several times. I think they ditched them either the first or second year they were in exsistence.
I got one how about the old IROC series before they started with this NASCAR type crap that is so biased towards the Cup drivers hardly anyone else ever wins a race. If i rememeber right they used to run in 911's on road courses. A different mix of drivers too. Does anyone have anymore info, it's a little before my time.
I'll second that. Gruppe B, Group B or "The Killer B's" whatever you want to call it, it was something special!
Something special: Like the Spanish Inquisition or the French Revolution. A gaggle of giggles for those heavily into blood and mayhem. Good riddance.
