Sad news. Something went very wrong when 2 off-duty police officers flew a Nanchang CJ-6A single-engine plane over the ocean near Ocean City, MD.

2 police officers' bodies recovered after Ocean City plane crash - DC Breaking Local News Weather Sports FOX 5 WTTG

Authorities in Maryland say two off-duty police officers died when their small plane crashed into the ocean off Ocean City.

The Maryland State Police identified the men Monday as 27-year-old Joshua D. Adickes of Berlin and 43-year-old Thomas J. Geoghegan Jr. of Ocean City. Both men were police officers with the Ocean City Police Department.

The bodies of the two men were recovered Monday. The wreckage of the plane was about one quarter of a mile off the beach from 130th Street in 30 feet of water. Divers suspended operations Monday afternoon because of dangerous conditions.

Mayor Rick Meehan says witnesses told police that the aircraft spun out of control Sunday before crashing.

The U.S. Coast Guard says the single-engine CJ-6A took off from Ocean City Municipal Airport.

The plane was owned by Geoghegan and investigators believe he was piloting the plane while Adickes was the only other passenger in the aircraft.

Here is a picture I found on the web of the pilot flying his CJ-6A.
He appears to have been an experienced pilot at aerobatic maneuvers.
    RIP.

It appears to right side up with a lot of up elevator. How in the world does that happen?

Like a lot of us do, a friend of mine's father used to take people up for fun and do spins, loops, etc.

One day, he took someone with him who thought he wanted to go, but apparently freaked when they entered a spin and pinned the rudder to the floor in the direction of the spin, making it unrecoverable despite the pilots repeated requests to let off. They spun into a house, and the passenger was killed. The pilot was in a body cast for a year and met his wife, a nurse, while in the hospital. If the pilot hadn't survived, we probably would have never known what happened. I think about that when I take people up and make sure I mention to remain clear of the controls at all times.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they suffered a mechanical failure either though. Looks like it was a rough situation. RIP

All the flights with passengers in which we did spins and stuff, I never encountered anything like that. Lots of screams from the gals but no interference. Something to think about.
