I got the ultimate liberty pass - I am flying out from DC in August to spend 3 glorious days w/ F-people at Concorso Italiano, Laguna Seca and Pebble Beach.

My wife will fly out and join me on Sunday night. Then she and I will hit Napa Valley which she has been dying to do. We have started looking at all the online tourist info and more B&B sites than I could imagine - they all start to blend together.

Do you all have favorite B&Bs/hotels in Napa that you could recommend? We'll be bumming around the full length of the Valley over four days - from Napa to St. Helena.

    thanks for the input!

Make sure you go to dinner at the French Laundry in Napa. Bring much money. Food is awesome.

    Bryan,

There are a number of excellent B&B's and Inns. Check the internet....the best ones are usually the most expensive. Not being flip, that's just the way it is. I used to have meetings up there all the time and most of the upscale places are excellent. There are several spa-like Inns as well if that is what you want.

In any case, it's all about the wine and food anyway. And there is no shortage of wineries and restaraunts. If you decide to go to the French Laundry, you should reserve right now. They usually have a 3 month wait to get in. Bring plenty of green....they are expensive.

Also, if you are going to be in the general area for long enough, you ought to check out the Sonoma area as well as Napa. It is a little more rural over there and sometimes the scenery and lack of congestion makes it nicer than Napa. Napa can sometimes be too touristy. Decide which wineries you want to see and base your visits around those.

Late August will have the grapes hanging heavy on the vines...is usally a nice time. Should be fun.

Can I suggest Andretti's Winery and Ferrari-Carano (out in Herldsburg (sp?)). Great scenary at both, though the names are cool, too.

    Bryan,

Yountville is a great place to stay. Lots of restaurants (including the french laundry) within walking distance of the bbs and hotels.

As far as Restaurant, I always have a great experience at Terra in St. helena.

If you want to do the laundry, get reservations months in advance.

Hmm..French Laundry, excellent food, best make a reservation now for August.

Also swing by Infineon (Sears Point) Raceway and check out Wine Country Motorsports. They have a nice collection of books, art and memorabilia.

The IRL race there at the end of August too if that's of any interest?

Edit: Oh, and go to Schramsberg. Very good bubbly!
