I don't get out much, but it was a big surprise to me when I saw ticket cameras at three intersections in little old Naples (Goodlette & Airport-Livingston/Pine Ridge). How did this happen? I never heard one thing about this!!! The cameras are setup on the corners of intersection. They are flashing once every 5 minutes!

Is this common throughout Florida? If so, what happened?

Why are these cameras a bad thing? Not sure I understand. If there is an intersection, seems to me that running a red light or speeding through it deserves some sort of slap on the wrist. I would think the idea is, don't try to run red lights and don't speed through intersections.

Apparently there is a problem at these intersections, enough for the city or county to add these cameras to catch offenders.

Sometimes at intersections, there are pedestrians, and some of those pedestrians could be children. Running red lights can be the prelude to an accident, another car, or a pedestrian. I think it best not to speed on public roads, especially tryng to run through red lights at intersections.

I know sounds like goody two shoes, but I have no problem with these cameras.

The problem is that your accuser is not there to face you. The yellow light tends to be faster than normal which is sped up by the operaters of the camera who are not the Police but a contracter who gives a $% of to the city. Its a revenue generating operation, not for safety and nothing more. As now you have the possibilty of drivers slamming on the brakes and causing a rear end collision. Dont be lulled into this is for the greater good, rather a infringement of your privacy and rights. Your rights are been taken away in small increments until there all gone. Flame on!

This is a SHAME, they installed this cameras EVERYWHERE with money that was supposed to be part of the "Stimulus pack" ... this is how it works, in FL in most places you CAN turn right, UNLESS there's a sign that says "NO TURN ON RED", some places are hard to see, and they had this signs + Camera$$ installed recently, now here is the BEST PART, I understand MAYBE a person didn't see, and got a ticket right away, let's say same week even, means you WILL STOP NEXT TIME of course, unless you are a total moron and like to pay tickets, but what they are doing is waiting for a 3rd of 5th offense so they can CHARGE YOU 5 times in ONE BIG SHOT, so you are stuck with a HUGE bill and with the risk of losing your license etc etc etc .... that is sooooooooooo wrong I can't even describe how pisses me off ....

If they were "so concern" about "public safety" people would be getting a ticket in a matter of days ... not 5 on one time .. so far I have seen 2-3 places around my normal commute that never had "NO TURN ON RED" that have those signs now, with cameras pointing everywhere ....

There's a class action suit going on in Miami addressing that I believe.

Seems like 85% of all those tickets are people turing right, not really running red lights.

Another negative, the car's owner, not the driver,is charged for the infraction.

this kid at work said his bro was driving his car home from a club (3 people in the house use the same car) at like 3am.

He said he was sitting at a light for 5 mins (no other cars on the road) and he didnt want to run it cause he saw the cameras and he was in his bro's car.

the light still didnt change after 5 more mins... so he used it as a stop sign and then went thru ...

2 weeks later a ticket came with 2 pics showing the cars plate and the other one of the front.
but you could not see who was driving so he didnt pay a dime.

if your face is covered or not seen in the photo you get nada (or at least its easy to fight)
