Rallye de l'Ouest - March 25/26 1972 from Nantes to Caen. Pilot was Alain Clément with car n°2. The car on the left is a rare Simca CG. Is it the right VIN for that Dino?

Does anyone know the race statistics of the 246 vs the 911 in the early 70's.

it seemed at the time that everyone was running porches and no one running Dinos
the Dino is too heavy for racing...methinks...

Absolutely! Contemporary articles and road tests (including the initial "Road & Track" Dino road test from the May, 1972 issue) took great pains to comment on the fact that the Dino was a natural rival for the 911, but was too heavy to compete successfully against it. Although Dinos were campaigned for awhile, I don't know how much (if any) factory involvement there was. Personally, the thought of exposing a Dino road car to the dangers of tight racetrack competition is very frightening! Fred

I think it´s not fair to judge the 246 has worser race genes as the 911 only by compairing race results. Posche supported the 911 from the early after beginning in 1964 with racing development and Ferrari neveer did. E.g. 911 R was developed before the 2.7 RS etc.. and greater race victories were result from continous improvement over years. The engine capacity made the race life harder for the 246 as the early 911 could race in the class up to 2,0L and the 2,7 went to 2.8 RSR to race in the up to 3L class were the 246 would also have to race.

The one with the flairs is really interesting. Makes you imagine "what if" the Dino would have gotten the "full works" Stratos drivetrain to go with the wider rubber! Would compare more to the RSR!

A 246GT used as a "pace car" during a hillclimb in France in 1972. Driver was Claude Bouscary. A quick research in the DinoRegister and the car should be #02478. Where is it today? (photo posted by ©mosleylucky on another forum).

A few weeks ago I found the daughter of one of the two drivers, Siggi Müllers (left guy on the first picture).
He sadly died many years ago.
Unfortunately his daughter couldn`t provide new Pictures of the Dino.....
But she found the sticker which was on the car at the race day,
It´s an advertising sticker of the restaurant/bar Siggi Müllers ran in the early 1970s.
    I think it`s lovely to have..... :)
