Giallo Solare is the color in which it raced at Sebring in 1967. Finished second in the GT class with no more modifications than a rollbar

i agree that its good that somebody decided to put it back to the original color. thats their decision as the owner.

nevertheless, i still think honduran red suits it better ;)

at Norman Silver's house in NC when he owned it...it was "Yellow" then.. I was I love with that car!!! He opened the truck for me and showed me the "Plywood" spare tire cover (which he had laminated to preserve the Castrol, etc. decals and markings on it.) that cover, he said, was Used by Denise mMccluggage (then driver at the Sebring race in that car) and her crew, as a pit board during the race.....you gotta love them stories!!!! I left Norman's that day not inquiring about it's availability, only to find out that he sold the car a week later....I would have bought that one in a heartbeat...had I only known :(

Growing up, I loved watching "The Thomas Crown Affair" starring the Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spyder with co stars Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway.

"Is that one of those red Italian things?"

As well as having the NART 275 GTB/4 Spyder in it, "The Thomas Crown Affair" (1968) is a truly great film with McQueen at his coolest and charismatic best, Dunaway at her classiest and sexiest and with a fabulous sound track too.

The color was called Marlboro Maroon not Honduran Red. It was a stock Corvette Color and it showed up better under "Camera" conditions. The spare tire cover was certainly used as a temporary pit card during the race and the chalk marks were still on it last time I drove it a few years ago. I drove Denise as well as my children in the car often and she confirmed that is what her crew guys that used the cover during the race.

The car was entered as a NART entry but was changed last minute to keep the entrants out of jail due to previous issues with the authorities. I forget what phony name they ended up using as the actual entrant. I will try and get a hold of Denise as I am sure she remembers it well.

One time at a show she was driving with me in the passenger seat to get an award and the announcer surprised us both and stated on the loudspeaker that the car was being presented to her as a lifetime achievement award or some other such thing... Neither of us took it as a joke... but it seems funny now.

    Ciao,

    Bill

Interesting information by the original owner of 10691 as to why there were only 10 NART 275 GTB/4 Spyders.

"As the original owner of Ferrari #10691, I wish to correct some misinformation in this and other articles about the original ten NART Spyders. A common question is why were only 10 cars produced, when Chinetti had placed an order for 25? This article suggests that this model had a premium "of nearly 50% over the latest Ferrari 365 GTS". Other articles have concluded that there simply was not enough demand for this incredible roadster. For example, see the excellent feature article on the 10 NART Spyders by Michael Lynch in Issue #97 of Cavallino. As to price, all Ferrari models were listed by Chinetti at $14,400 in 1967. There was no premium placed on the NART Spyder. The usual haggling over cars would knock something off of list.

At the New York Automobile Show in April, 1967, Chinetti was displaying the fly yellow NART Spyder #09751, the second car in the series. One of the salesmen, Ivo Brillo, noticed my interest in looking at the car and asked simply "What color do you want?" I answered "Blue". Ivo said "Give me your car [a 1966 275GTS, #8001] and $3,900." We shook hands and I placed the order immediately. It wasn't until January, 1968 that my car arrived, number 7 in the series. I waited (impatiently) almost seven months for delivery! Scaglietti's production was painstakingly slow. Only two more came into this country after mine, all of them sold as 1967 models, and the tenth went to Spain. This suggests that there was no demand for this model, but that is a false conclusion. Any new car sold in this country after January 1, 1968 had to meet the brand new Federal emissions standards. Ferrari was not going to get that certification for the aging 275 GTB, so Chinetti cancelled the rest of the planned run of 25.

As to demand, in the fall of 1967 before my car was ready, Chinetti was trying to get me to give up my sales contract at a substantial profit! Obviously, I declined. In summary, slow production and U.S. emissions control laws conspired to limit the production of this roadster, named by Road and Track in April, 1967 as "The most satisfying sports car in the world." I owned this car for 18 years, thoroughly enjoying all 41,000 miles of spirited driving. I agreed to sell it in 1986 because it was becoming a museum piece, a car too valuable to enjoy (and risk) on the road. My only regret is that I have never found another roadster as beautiful and satisfying as this one."

Denise took the NART sticker and inverted the letter A so turning it into a V, thus letting it stand for the North Vermont Racing Team

As I recall the car was maroon, on the cover of R&T when they did the road test on it. At that point they said this was the car driven at Sebring, and other than a slightly tired 2nd gear synchro, it was still fresh and strong and they wouldn't hesitate to buy it just like that. So was it painted specifically for the movie or was it painted after the race, since racing pretty much trashes the finish anyway?

I've always been under the impression that the car was painted for the movie.

Painted for the movie as the yellow washed out badly in the camera.
