Artemis Solid Rocket Booster Nozzle Fails in Dramatic Fashion During Test
This SRB has a new electric Thrust Vector Control (TVC) system.

That explosion would take out the whole rocket. >>>

Why didn't they just shut it off after the failure:rolleyes:;)

Trying to emulate the SpaceX crowd by cheering and clapping after the failure. lol

Interesting, I never realized that the SRB's had vectoring capability. I guess I could see a need for the shuttle with the SME's offset, but is it really needed with the Artemis 1st stage in-line with the SRB's?

Those are modded SSMEs so should not have been that big a deal. Of course, they had to change the gimbals that had worked so well in the past.

Strange...I thought I replied to this thread when it launched in 2022. I saw it launch up close across the water. It was disappointing to say the least. All of us there were used to seeing the shuttle go up so many times we were all waiting for the delayed loud rocket sounds and it never arrived. It was a super quiet rocket and I later found out they upgraded the pad with a better sound suppression system to reduce the sound so the pad wouldn't get destroyed. I guess they did too good of a job. Also the launch was delayed a bit that early morning and they said over the speaker that some bolts for a refueling line were visibly loose lol. I was surprised they were so open about such a lazy error on their end...lack of attention to detail I suppose.

Cell phone pic below. I viewed it from Kirk Point Riverside Park across a BP gas station that was convenient to get snacks and use the bathroom during delays. Parking on side of road was free although some people were trying to charge $20 or whatever not far from there. Pretty quick to get out of there too with a u-turn back to Orlando in case anyone wants to go there for another launch. I have zero interest in seeing that quiet thing go up again up close.
