I'm planning to take my 355Challenge to MSR for the NASA race on March3, and maybe March4. www.nasatx.com I think it will be the 1.7mile track, have there been any "races" on the new 3.1?

Anyone else going? Rob, Colin, Wes?? It would be cool to have a few Challenge cars there.

I think PCA raced the 3.1 with much carnage. The new area is tough to race, I would still do it, but I think much less safe.

Colin will be there Saturday at least with his Challenge. I might come out to watch, but my racing is focused on the SCCA T3.

Ron Rippe and Greg Scott might be racing their Spec. RX7's.

It looks like I will be able to make it Saturday, but not Sunday.

Rob, you should come run Saturday, it'd be great to have three Challenge cars on the grid!

    See you there.

I'll be there with Mia just to deliver the car and maybe clean it. No racing this weekend, but I'll come say hi.

It was a good day. Had to deliver the Challenge back out to Rob's condo after being home all winter. Jennie was interviewing prospective students all morning, so I was on my own with Mia. Luckily Rob's condo was full of people more than happy to care for Mia a little. I got 104504 unloaded and detailed, then took Mia for her first actual ride in a Ferrari over to the SRX7 pits to see those guys. Spent the afternoon watching the racing.

3 Ferraris racing in the GT class with Vettes, Panoz, and Porsches.

Mark McKenzie - 355 Challenge (red)
Colin Cohen - 355 Challenge (blue)
Randy Aust - 348 Challenge (green)

    Other FC'ers racing today were...

Rob Cohen (911) - First club race ever, congrats!
Ron Rippe (SRX7) - Moved up to finish 4th in last race of day.
Keith Verges (Spec Miata) - Dominated that racing today as he usually does at MSR.

Colin Cohen also raced his Audi tt.

Sorry Mark I didn't catch you in the pits to say hi, my hands were a little full. :) You drove a great race. That Panoz was hilarious as he was coming around to take the group win for the checker and totally blew his braking point and spinning off before rattlesnake. :) Looks like you still held him off for the group win.

Does your buddy have experience with rotaries? They take awhile to learn, all new rotary builders mess up about 5 before they get it right. :) My mechanic is an expert, won mechanic and service manager of the year for North America when working for Mazda. Now retired and just supports racers on the cheap. I can give you his info if interested. He also has drag experience.

Getting engine rebuilt right now, has been down on power since we rebuilt before Runoffs and ran 235 water first two sessions. Setup is great finally, that's the only reason I won the season opener nationals at MSR Houston 2 weeks ago. Next weekend TWS I'll have handling and power! :)

Oh yes....He's experienced...>You should see his Rx-3 with the 13b-rew converted to a big single turbo. Great machinist and takes his time. I'll be buying another 1st gen soon, a cleaner one as a sleeper. My wife will be getting an Rx-8, the Srt-4 will be soon out the door. I've brought her to the darkside. My current 1st gen is a daily driver, but not needed...So downtime will not be an issue there. I'll be getting rid of the Racing Beat Streetport Exhaust system when the bridgeport is complete...I shot you a pm with a link to the Rx-3 dyno vid and some photos. The thread link shows all his work..He's done everything himself except for the ceramic coating on various parts. Headers, full exhaust, and body mods including flared fenders were all his work....You got mail, lol....

    Thanks Rob,
I saw you buzz by in the "baby carriage", but wasn't able to catch up with you. I'm not sure when I'll race again this year, I have two babies only a little older than Mia, so you can understand....

I knew the Panoz was quicker, luckily he got stuck in the pack during qualifying. I think the final result showed me ahead by .09 sec! It was "different" to watch him spin off right after we took the checker.

Now if we can just get Wes motivated, and the planets aligned, we could have five challenge cars on the grid. Let me know which dates you're considering and I may try to come.

Mark's win against the Panoz was awesome, and yes, it was by .09 seconds! The Panoz was so hard on the gas trying to beat him to the finish line he finished in the dirt. I was the next car through (although a lap down). Smartest thing I did all weekend was see the two of them in my mirror, realize they were fighting for the win, and moved off line to let them through.

I finished 11/18 in race #1; 2 out of 5 in my class. Colin finished ahead of me in 10th. I was ahead for a while but the second half of the race he was flying! He passed me and was pulling away when it ended.

15/18 in race #2. I spin on the second or third lap and dropped to last place. I had to finght my way back from there.

Finished 9/16 in race #3, a 40 minute race on Sunday. This was a blast as the last 10 laps was a fight between me, another 911, and Randy Aust in his 348 Challenge. The other 911 had the lead, then Randy, then me. The lead car made a mistake and Randy got by. Then 2 turns later, Randy makes a mistake and we both get by. I had about 5 laps chasing the car in front and keeping Randy behind me. Could not make the pass but held Randy off so that's how we finished, the other 911 beating me by 0.3 seconds.

Randy was kind enough to give me some great advice after the race. I was faster than the other 911 but did not have the experience to make the pass. With Randy's instruction that I got afterward, I'll get him next time ....

Best race of the weekend was Keith and Mark Jenkins in the 40 minute spec Miata race on Sunday. The two of them battled it out with multiple lead changes over a couple of laps. It was really exciting to watch two excellent drivers race as cleanly as they did. They were on top of each other until Mark made a mistake in Rattlesnale and Keith pulled away. Congrats to Keith and thanks for the show!

I'm getting motivated...just need to get me a trailer.

    Don't worry it will happen.

Let me know too, I might be in.
Need to do somethings to the car first. A fresh fire system and a few other changes and I am in.

Mark Jenkins was all over me like a cheap suit, but raced clean with only the slightest of love taps. I had to work my butt off to try to stay ahead, and he passed anyway, but then I did a little to & fro in his mirrors and he made a small error, which is all it takes in Spec Miata. We were hustling the cars VERY hard, with many laps in the 1:25s in race conditions. I am pretty sure we both set PRs for lap times during the race, with Mark a tick faster at a 1:25.3 to my 1:25.4 best lap. Lots of side-by side action.
