Like yesterday that was a great finish. Love it when an underdog wins :)

Stinks that there is so much wrecking. :(

On the subject of wrecking, what can be said abut someone that makes the same HUGE mistake, twice.

What makes it even more interesting is KB did it to the same driver, almost the same way in the same part of the track.

by the way...worthy of note: psp was vocal and blamed jj for causing the wreck that took her out. she may want to look at the video and reconsider the driver that deserves her blame:)

The only thing better than watching KB wreck out of a race is watching him dominate a race, wreck his competition to keep the lead and then fall back at the end of the race to lose. Then hear that he has left the track pouting and has declined any interviews. I love it :D

    kb = kurt or kyle?

    Kyle

I think Kurt is a screw up that knows better but has a hard time controlling himself. BTW he has been driving the wheels off that car and has put it far ahead of where a team of that caliber would normally be.

Kyle is just a dirty driver. He can't see past himself and its " do as I say not as I do ". I could make an hour long highlight reel of his unsportsmanlike conduct and it would start with the time he wrecked driving the #5 car, left the track in the middle of the race and when his crew got it running again Rick Hendrick had to get Jr. who was also out of his #8 car to get in and drive it to the end of the race. Hard to have any respect for a tool that abandons his team.

I think I have to agree with you on both counts. First I am stoked to see Kurt wheel that car with the big teams. It actually gives me hope that a driver can still make the difference. Well don't let's get crazy...reality is still best car / team always wins. Doc bundy told me that when I was still a wide eyed racer. It still holds true!

Kyle is a tool. A fast dude to be sure...maybe the fastest roundy round guy but a t total tool.
As a note: my friend Cody is his manager. I have heard of some funny stories and lots of frustration surrounding coaching him on how not to be an idiot.

At the first of the year they had the test / Fanfest at Daytona and most of the drivers did a fan forum. Kurt was up there and was asked if he would get his son into racing. Kurt said he would support him in whatever he chooses and wanted him to follow the right path so he doesn't screw up his life like I did. His voice cracked as he said that and I knew that he had genuine remorse for a lot of his actions and if he had the chance to do it over he would correct his mistakes. He is intelligent and articulate. His downfall is a quick temper that gets the best of him.

Kyle on the other hand is a psychopath that can't see the wrong in all the crap that he does. His regret is getting called out for something not for doing it and there is a big difference. I feel there is no merit when a driver in the top tier division goes and races against the up and comers in a lower tier and wins. Kyle won his 200th nascar race combined in all three series with the majority coming after he was a full time cup driver and he was compared to Richard Petty and his 200 wins which is a completely different set of circumstances. Kyle stood there with a big grin on his face and I know he loved the comparison and felt it. Delusion of grandeur was what that was.

I like racing, the competition and sportsmanship. I hate cheaters and those that play dirty. A lot of drivers have had their bad movements but nobody comes close to the consistency of Kyle.

NASCAR: The Danica Patrick Rule - Beyond the Flag - Your #1 Destination for Motorsports News and More

attached is an si commentary of the danica rule...essentially ensures that danica ( the top fan voted driver) will get to race in the all-star race in charlotte.

this is frankly just another shameful nascar move. I know there are many on f-chat that believe she is a true talent and it is no secret that I may be among her biggest f-chat critics...but she is simply not to be confused with a racer and short of her popularity, she is not all star material either.

oh well, please don't be surprised when she get's a w. nascar will make it happen at some point soon.

Why did NASCAR implement the rule that the top 35 in pts automatically qualify for the race?

They made that rule way before Danica even thought of entering NASCAR. Answer, they wanted to make sure their top draw drivers made the race.

In the last few races the #2 car has gone 1 or more laps down early in the race and came back to finish not only on the lead lap but contend for a win. Would this new Allstar rule have benefited the #2 car as well. How stupid would it be if the the current Sprint Cup Champion had to race in the showdown, had to make an unexpected pit stop putting him a lap down and not be eligble for the Allstar race even though the fans voted him in.

Wouldn't it stink for the non points race Allstar " show " if the driver the fans voted in wouldn't be eligible because they cut a tire early in the race and the pit stop put them a lap down and even though they had the fastest car on the track they couldn't be in the Allstar race because the old rule states you have to be on the lead lap.

The lucky dog and the wave around benefits all drivers and most have taken advantage of those rules. I think at one time there were only 11 cars on the lead lap at the last Darlington race. Those rules were made before Danica even thought about coming to NASCAR.

Having the rule that the fan vote winner has to be on the lead lap is stupid and outdated and defeats the purpose of having a fan vote. If Danica wasn't in NASCAR and Dale Jr. got the fan vote but was denied there would be outrage. This is a smart move by NASCAR to make sure the fans get to see the driver they voted in no matter who it is.

Ok. Lol, so you are one of a handful of race fans in America that will not call this the Danica rule. I must say you are very much in favor of the princess and give her the benefit of the doubt regularly.

I will say she is worth every penny that her sponsors pay her but on her merits as a driver I cannot see how you endorse her. I really can't understand your apparent adulation for this woman but you do take fantastic photos!

I believe a few pages back or in another thread I said if she finishes the year in the top 30 in points she had a solid year for a driver in their first full year of racing in the Sprint Cup series. I don't expect any more of her and I won't judge her ability for another five years as she needs that much experience.

What I don't understand is why people think she was going to come in the series winning a bunch of races and dominating and then trash her because she doesn't live up to their expectations. I don't have any adulation for her. What I do is try and put things in the proper perspective.

If you think she isn't good enough to win races then why would you bash her for not doing well. She performed to your expectations.

The reason I don't bash her is because she is racing to my expectations as a top 30 driver.

When is the last time new driver came into nascar and had to gain years of experience (IN TOP-LEVEL EQUIPMENT) before being a consistent contender?

    Can you say 'never'?

All of the greats contended right away, maybe not for a win at every race, but had consistent top-15's if not top-10's, and a handful of top-5's..

How many really good drivers have come in in good if-not-great equipment and have never really been an overall consistent contender? TONS.

'contended right away' = battled into the top-5 in half the races. I don't mean got into the top-5 when everyone else pitted while they stayed out, and I don't mean be fast as hell on all the long, FAST tracks where all you do is draft, and I don't mean STAYED in the top-5.

'overall consistent contender' - same as above but in the top-10, and on almost all of the tracks, and usually qualified top-25, with a few top-10 qualifying efforts interspersed.

I like Danica, she may be OK, but she is going to have a nascar career exactly like a Martin Truex Jr., Casey Mears, Joey Logano, David Reuttemann. She will be 'around', and that's about it.

If you expect anything else you are mistaken.

    It was pretty boring :(

Seemed like there was no passing. The usual suspects like JJ and Kyle Bush were about the only ones that could make a pass. The restarts were the only action and after one lap they went to single file with no passing. Whoever got out in front had a clear advantage ( clean air ) and was very hard to catch. A couple teams are much stronger than the others right now making for little competition and boring racing.

I'm thinking that the 600 next weekend will be pretty much the same just A LOT longer so I may just spend the day at the beach instead :)

Every year some old buddies from south FL swing by with an extra ticket and take me to the race.
It was almost unbearable when they held the race during the day.
The last few years have been surprisingly pleasant with a cool evening breeze.

Keep talking to her and if she goes for it make sure you do something she will enjoy while you're there
so you can come back for Speed Weeks in 2014 :D

I thought it was pretty good from in person. Did you just see it on TV? There may have been a lot of action they didn't show!

And secondly, the All-Star race is indeed over hyped, especially for what you see on TV. Run half or less of the field...and keep known caution periods, and its just not going to be as exciting as the drivers and team's have too much already predicted. Two years ago when I went it wasn't that great, but I really liked it this time. ^^ I think the rain had something to do with that, as it threw wrenches in predictability.

Jamie Mac's rear suspension was probably a tad soft for how much grip they had out there in the first race. He was scraping into 1 every time he got to the full banking and it compressed the car to maximum.

I'd like to see Danica beat Ricky in the championship.

you would like to see danica beat stenhouse for the rookie championship? lol...don't hold your breath.

of those left, danica finished a dead and resolute LAST. she was more than a half a second a lap off the pace. if not for the race format she would have been lapped 2 or more times in the race.

I believe that nascar wanted her in the all star race for the ratings but did not give much thought to how she would be so exposed as dead slow when running against the fast guys.

I too enjoyed the race Andrew but was pulling for kurt as the money would have helped a team like his...so close.

last, I loved how mark martin gave my old friend tiger tom pistone a big hug as he walked by during the driver introductions. that made me smile!!!
