16 Cup and 15 Nationwide teams got busted for the roof flap spacers.

NASCAR's penalty guys will be busy this weekend....it will be interesting to see how they come down on this one.

I hung out by the inspection station and saw them messing with the roof flaps on several cars but didn't know what was going on until I got home.

I hope you make it to the race tomorrow. Will be pretty hot during the day but nice and breezy once the sun goes down. Should be comfortable for a night of great racing.

Great shots as always. Some really clever composition too.

The picture of the gentleman in the wheelchair is a memorable photo.

    Thanks :)

They have everything so buttoned up it is really hard to get something different. I'm stuck with shooting from the top of the fan zone, the cars coming in and out of pit road which btw is taken through a chain link fence and then hiking out to the turns for some shots on the bank. After that I'm stuck with shooting stuff around the fan zone. I'm almost to the point where I don't even want to bother lugging the camera around. I wish it was more like Sebring and the Rolex 24.

I liked the shot of the gentleman in the wheelchair as well :)

For those that may not know, that man is Bootie Barker and he is the crew chief for the #13 Sprint Cup team and a very good one at that.

Oh of course. I completely forgot about bootie. It just was a very interesting rave photo. So small amidst all that asphalt. A really neat shot.

I think you make a good point.

Make no mistake...they want it and frankly they need it. I honestly don't know if it would put more bodies in the seats but it would shore up tv and corporate sponsorship dollars.

NASCAR is reverting to the pro baseball/basketball model...sell the sky boxes and tv rights and don't pan into the empty stands too much during the broadcast.

Now, another question...can you imagine the marketing silence in NASCAR if Danica was to go away at the seasons end?

I like that they are doing some renovations to make the track nicer but it is scary to think that they had built all those stands on the back stretch that at times were almost full, sat there myself but never again, and now they are not only going to take them down but also reduce the seating on the front stretch. That is a huge turnaround.

Putting hotels in place of the stands will be much more profitable because they will fill up during all Daytona events as opposed to just empty stands.

I'm sure there is some devilish character with a calculator tucked away in NASCAR headquarters crunching the numbers to see what would be most profitable.

Whatever they do I hope they make it affordable for common folk like me :)

I wanted to go to the F1 race in Texas but that was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of my budget :(

I'll watch the first few laps but I'll miss Danica make history due to a bleepin' family reunion!

They better have an open bar. Coke Zero for all. :D

Current state of plate racin' is pretty lame. Part throttle parade...yeah they brought back "pack racin" as some beering drinkin' 'n' pot smokin' fans are happy with, but its hard for me to watch.:\

I've said before, and I'll say it again. Replace one plate race with a European event, Spa? Run the chicane on the back stretch of the other Daytona race or something, or run the road course, or put a chicane in at 'Dega, just get rid of one more plate race in addition.

I preferred the tandem's to this.

replace the spring Dega race with a NNS/Cup double header at Road Atlanta.

those two tracks are close enough that most of the crowd would be retained. and 3600 pound stock cars in T12 at Road Atlanta would be hi-larious.

Gah, I was watching from the #10 and was rooting for it to finish in front of the #17, had it, then kaboom, wreck, and...I think 17 got it. :(

Geez, what a crash fest at the end. Congrats to JJ...on his way to becoming "six time" I do believe.
