The Block and Knock 500. They should name it the Daytona wreck week. Started with the ARCA wreck fest, then the trucks, then the Xfinity and finished off with today's survival 500.

Dillon is a talentless hack that only got a ride because of who laid RC's daughter. RCR has become a throwaway team, unfortunately.

Totally forgot about the "500" busy with Miami Design District Concours post event media.

So, from what I'm reading there was more "Green-White-Checker" nonsense so the "500
mile" was actually how many miles this time?

    517.5 miles.

also, this is the first time I've noticed it (haven't watched an entire NASCAR race in the "stage racing" era until yesterday). stage breaks were laps 60 and 120. but when the race went back green, it was laps 67 and 125. so caution laps around stages count? why?

I watched it. I think the best strategy for Nascar is staying back and letting everyone crash and then move to the front with 2 laps to go.

    overnight ratings: 5.1

    last year: 6.5

    record: 11.3, in 2006

excuses already piling up; Olympics, race was 1 week later last year, no Jr Jr Jr, blah blah blah.

On the Superspeedways, yes 100%. Not as much on the short tracks. It was stupid how hard they were fighting for the stage wins. Racing hard at the end is one thing, but weaving and blocking at lap 55-56ish was just plain silly.

At the very least he should NOT be driving the 3. No one should. Only one man should have had the opportunity and he didn't want the pressure and wanted to be his own man. Now he's retired and the 3 should have been retired along with him. Not given to some little sissy punk based purely on nepotism.

I wish Bubba was the winner. You'd still have a great link to the past (King Richard/His #43) plus it would have been a much bigger story for the present and future of the sport.

Now I understand these stages. It’s to force drivers to race instead of sitting back for the last 5 laps.

And people say DRS is artificial!

Everything about NASCAR is artificial now, the Chase, the Stages, The constantly revolving rules package. It's nothing like when I was growing up, and I'm only turning 35 soon.

Based on this...I just can't wait to see the Indy 500 ratings. These are bad...and is going to sink even further. Both have killed the golden goose big time ! I wonder how Comcast feels about these numbers. Market value just sunk a bit.

I have raced against the Dillon brothers in karts.

Austin was the weaker of the two.

Without "rich drivers" major motor racing could have died when national support fell out after WWII.

The Dillons, Menards, etc, I welcome their participation.

Not a fan of Austin though. He tried to wreck me when I went to put him another lap down, I was also expecting it from him and fake him onto a part of the track that didn't have grip.

I wouldn't say talentless, just there are better out there. There are several key factors to being a good racing driver, he has a few of them. He is not as good at making the right decision in an unfamiliar environment, and that is one of the keys to going from good to great.
