15th caution.
Time for the NASCAR dogfight of the week No tires....... 2 tires...... 4 tires ...... .....and about 6 or so laps, what could go wrong ?
That was nearly 5 hours! That pass from the 3rd spot on the last restart by Truex was pretty good tho.
Jeff Braun (racing engineer extraordinaire and Colin Braun's dad) pointed out that the race was 5 hours long. IMSA, an endurance series, caps drivers at 4 hours drive time.
I have always felt that the 600 is too long, and many of the 500 mile (or 500 lap races on the short tracks) should be shortened to 400.
Hmmmm.....? I don't remember those ghost drivers in the Rolex.....I guess their names are invisible too, eh? Oooohhhh...you mean stints??? On a serious note, however, I, like NASCRAP drivers going round and round, have driven straight through from S Fla to LI, NY (1350 miles +/-) solo on many occasions; not done so many hours/miles city driving in one shot. There's a heck of a difference doing ovals/highways vs. road courses/in town.
yes, stints, smart ass I think the rule is 4 hours in an 8 hour span (maybe 6 hours?). so NASCAR drivers going 5.5 hours in one "stint" is impressive, oval or not. when you drove 1300 miles by yourself, were you wearing 3 layers of nomex and a helmet with the heat on full blast?
Interesting to note that results of the 600 weren't posted on any of the relevant racing sites until that was until this morning where Racer.com posted that Truex had won. Motorsport.com had the "winner" of every stage but not the final winner. So, which is more important then? Motorsport.com's full race report was not made until the day after the event. Turned on the 600 3-4 times and each time they were under caution so it looked like another NASCAR debacle. How very exciting. BHW
up 8% but still low by NASCAR standards. https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2019/05/indy-500-ratings-coca-cola-600-f1-monaco/
So 8% more people were watching the caution filled procession being described by that insufferable jackass motormouth Darrell Waltrip? To each their own I guess. BHW
Ran across this video last night, "8 Reasons Why NASCAR is Dead". If I didn't know any better, I'd swear I was hearing my own various diatribes from over the years. Good to know someone is thinking out there. BHW
'Matter of fact no....'were a leather jacket and helmet, goggles and scarf.... Again, on a serious note though, having driven on ovals (short tracks to boot, more work than bigguns) and road courses, I made the comparison I did to illustrate the reason why there is a max stint for road racers. 'Don't know if you have or haven't, but you're far busier (physically and mentally) on road courses than ovals. Neither easy but ovals less stressful on the mind and body; just as highway driving is easier than city. Anywho, Belle Isle's ready to roll (along with Pocno) so...... edit: Hey! At least they sometimes shift at Pocono...
NASCAR road race on a NON oval track .......starts shortly. The entertainment value will be good, NASCAR is the MMA of auto racing. “ Get off my lawn” Sonoma is a half mile longer this year.
DW's last race? Promise? NASCAR's nonsense is at peak during these road races. They'll throw a 20 minute caution because someone puts a wheel off in a turn and then parade the cars around at 15MPH (for reasons which have never been adequately explained) and their outright manipulation of the results is glaring. Unwatchable drivel. BHW
It just occurred to me, the NASCAR race was not broadcast in Miami once again. The local FOX affiliate must be making more money showing infomercials. Seems rather strange given the market size and the fact that NASCAR, you know, holds an actual race here. BHW
agreed, carousel is the signature turn on that track, it's a shame they didn't use it for so long. I found it amusing that IndyCar at Road America was on NBC, and NASCAR was buried on FS1 with no promotion. how the tides have turned...
