I can't believe that the most popular form of racing in the US won't let the taxi cabs play in the rain. I thought these guys are supposed to be some of the best. I guess turning right and wet pavement are too much.
    How boring.

Agreed. Throw some rain tires on and let them go at it!

You need cars that are built for rain to run in the rain. As the Ovals only run in the dry, I imagine the electronics have very little waterproofing, you'd likely see a high drop out rate if the ran in the rain. They also do not have wipers, or lights, and I'm not sure the tire manufacturer even has a rain tire for NASCAR.

This has already been done and tested at The Glen. Note that the Tony Stewart/Lewis Hamilton car had wipers.

And they have rain tires- I'm 30 minutes from the track, we got a few decent downpours, but nothing they shouldn't have been able to handle.....

It's my understanding that the road course cars are completely different from the oval track cars, so at least the electronics/wipers/lighting issues could be dealt with relatively easily. Rain tires would be another issue, but Goodyear could certainly come up with one. I seem to remember reading about a rain tire being tested in NASCAR a couple of years ago. (And the last poster says that they already exist.)

The cars would for sure be a handful in the wet, but very entertaining to watch!

The NASCAR Nationwide series ran in the rain in Montreal a few years back.

The cars have to be designed with lights, wipers, tires as mentioned - the cars for the Montreal race were so equipped.

Can't just up and change on a moment's notice without taking the time to modify the technology, any more than F1 could decide today to have their flat track cars run on the 28 degree banking of Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend...though that would be quite the demolition derby...

I understand but F1 cars run on many non flat tracks and could run the banking if they wanted to. Indy cars do it, just change the set up. If NASCAR wants to play on a roadcourse they should do it all the way. It reminds me of Pro Wrestling. A spectacle. Another form of entertainment.
