That's what is meant by the good old days. Race on Sunday, buy on Monday. We used to ba able to buy cars pretty much the same as what was raced in NASCAR. Now if there is a screw from a production car, it's probably a miracle. Ciao Life is too short not to own a Ferrari and be an F1 fan. Forza Ferrari.
You'll have to save up for 40 years like I did. If you are lucky, you may get there way before me. I wish you the best. Ciao
Well, JPM has another DNF. His engine gave up. He was doing real well. In the Gatorade 150 and the Busch race showing a lot of great driving, but just doesn't have the builtproof equipment. Hopefully they give him a good car tomorrow and everything is sorted out.
Everyone has an engine give up at some point in NASCAR. It happens when you are pushing a pushrod V8 up to over 10k RPM... I like watching NASCAR a lot more than F1. Call me immature, but F1 is too boring and political for my tastes. There is rarely any passing, rarely any wrecks, and most of the time, it seems as though each car has its own section of the track, with no other cars around it. To each his own I guess, but i can assure anyone who thinks NASCAR is still a redneck sport, with a bunch of good ol' boys racing, its no longer close to that. The cars are VERY technologically advanced, and do amazing things with what they are given to work with. Most of the drivers are younger guys not from the south, without an accent, and the same goes for the crew chiefs. I personally think a good NASCAR driver would do much better going to F1 and being at least semi-competitive than a good F1 drive being competitive in NASCAR in the same amount of time.
Just a bad break for JPM. I'm not a fan of the Busch series in terms of allowing Nextel Cup drivers to race. I wish it would become more of a "development" series (think F3000 for F1).
How come NASCAR is being jumped on??? Every year F1 teams cheat, lie and bend the rules far past their limits. You guys just like bashing NASCAR and this is another thread for it, grow up. Someone state that NASCAR has the biggest cheaters and they all sleep with their sisters and be done. MJ, aren't you a driver now? You don't think you'll ever be a part of a team that cheats??? And wouldn't that make you a cheater as well?
This comes down to what you think of NASCAR itself. My rommates are both loyal Toyota owners and fans. They don't care for NASCAR, but they hoped Toyota's entry would lead to success against the typical line of Fords, Chevys, and Dodges. They were disappointed to hear about Toyota's team troubles. As for myself, I don't care for stock car racing because there's nothing "stock" about it anymore. How much does a street Ford Fusion have in common with a track model racing in Daytona? I forgot: we can all buy a Ford 800 hp, rear-wheel-drive sport sedan at our dealership. The corporate sponsorship has gotten out of hand, as well. I'm glad to see US carmakers cutting funds for NASCAR teams. They should adopt the old mantra of "Race on Sunday, sell on Monday." Image Unavailable, Please Login
A buddy of mine who builds engines for these bad boys, says in all likelyhood the gel substance is drugged up sterno (menthanol gel) and possibly (nitro)? that is packed into the fuel filter and as gas passes through it dissolves some and gives some more snort. Problem is some passed through semi-solid and ended up inside the manifold. Oops! my buddy claims every body has been doing it for some time, looks like Waltrips boys packed in a little too much. Waltrip admits to knowing about it and says the worst part of the whole deal was that his daughter asked: "but daddy why did you have to cheat".
It will take Toyota a year or two, likely. With the car of tomorrow taking over, the edge should narrow. To be honest, I think NASCAR is different that drivers are the "focus", more so than F1.
"a good NASCAR driver would do much better going to F1 and being at least semi-competitive..." are you serious? where/what do you base this opinion?
That many of the good NASCAR drivers have shown great open-wheel car potentials. I didnt mean and old NASCAR drive, I mean the sport's best (i.e. Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon). They are as good of drivers as ANY modern F1 driver, regardless of what you say or think. I find most posts on this forum are uneducated about NASCAR and its drivers. Tony Stewart has won an IRL championship, and is a VERY talented road-course driver. Jeff Gordon is right up there as well. What do you base your opinion on that F1 drivers are the best in the world? Its the biggest racing series in the world, but are they really the best drivers? They are up there in the top 1%, but so are NASCAR drivers, rally drivers, etc. I honestly think thhe best in F1 isnt any better than the best in NASCAR, or the best in WRC, and they are all on a fairly level playing field. There was a comment made in here that NASCAR wins are the cars, not the drivers, when in all reality, it is the complete opposite. In F1, it is more car than driver, and more driver than car in NASCAR. If F1 were actually a competitive race series for every team involved, I might actually enjoy it.
Ive also noticed that NASCAR even is trying to move away from the term stock car, and announcers have said "there is nothing even close to stock in a stock car."
at no point did i EVER mention that F1 drivers are the best in the world!!! very quick to opine aren't ya. clearly an indication of "the gerbil running on the wheel" up there in your skull without no food to chew on. "they are as good of drivers as ANY modern F1 driver, regardless of what you say or think"...hmm, you are stating your OPINION onto me, in the form of a FACT... until you can actually PROVE IT somehow, that is just silly. is there an imperical way to directly compare them outside of their respective circles? your opinion is no more fact than anyone else'. "they are all on a fairly level playing field"...again, is there a way to show this as fact? how can you make such a claim when the respective fields are rather distinct/and or specialized in certain ways? how can you be soooo sure that the best NASCAR driver would likely do well in F1(or rallying, etc.) to approach fact in your opinions? Can you infer anything overwhelmingly substantial from winning in IRL? you also don't enjoy F1, but you like to express that, as well as express your idea that most here are uneducated about NASCAR... hmmm.....
Bingo ! Nascar fans follow drivers not teams. In F1 it is more typical to see fans with Ferrari, BMW, Renault, whatever, hats and gear. On the back of pick'em ups you see driver's numbers. (Love the his'n'hers numbers) I dont really relate to the whole Nascar scene, but as far as real world Competition, thus skill levels, Nascar is where its at.
The really sad thing is the Toyota Camry is the only car in NASCAR that's actually made in the U.S. The Fusion is made in Mexico and the Chevys are made up in Canada.
When was the last time any NASCAR driver made the move from the dodge-ems to any open wheel series of any sort? There may be a couple of guys who couldn't cut in open wheel road racing who've become names in NASCAR, but none the other way around: NASCAR selects for a subset of driving skills, they are not the world's best drivers by any measure. ...And, yes, F1 is a competition between constructors as well as drivers, there are plenty of spec series the world over if that doesn't make sense to you.
it just bothers me that so many passionate individuals (regardless of what it is they are defending/supporting) make similar statements--provide their opinions in the form of fact. sometimes this is mild, sometimes this borders on the absurd. ..."are as good of drivers as ANY modern F1 driver, regardless of what you say or think"..this kind of statement irks me. an opinion stomping on my opinion (which i hadn't even given yet) to proclaim itself as fact. while i'm not a wholy subscribed empiricist, at least give me more than that. the old debate "NASCAR vs (X)" will always be there, but at least make some sense in the matter. direct or cross comparisons aren't always possible, but some refuse to accept that. while we're offering opinions here...for myself, NASCAR just doesn't interest me. although, i do try to educate myself, to a point, in many forms of motor racing--so that i'm not entirely ignorant if they didn't turn left all day, "i might actually enjoy it" now, back on topic...
